Description

CMU Open Spaces TRANSATLANTIC  TRA 237 (UK) 1971 ORIGINAL UK PROGRESSIVE LP NEAR MINT

stunning, complex, melodic progressive album with exceptional female vocals, great fuzz guitar and strong keyboards - the record is near mint and appears to have been played only once or twice with dazzling jet black gloss and a mirror-like shine - has the usual surface mark to the outer extremity of the disc on both sides - all copies have this small problem due to the ill-considered (and frankly daft) ‘av/pak’ sleeve design - this was the next ‘big thing’ in 1971 and employed by Transatlantic, Island and one or two other UK companies to show off their cool new label designs, the record being housed in a clear PVC sleeve attached to the inner gatefold, and prevented from rolling about or becoming dusty with a foam strip along the opening edge - this bad idea inevitably caused a reaction between the foam and the edge of the record resulting in a ‘burn’ mark and some hiss for the first revolutions of track one on each side - I have never seen a copy that managed to escape being similarly afflicted - this one is not bad at all, having been marked mostly on the play-in grooves only, and without too much intrusion on the playing areas - storage of the otherwise-unprotected disc inside this inner PVC ‘jacket’ also resulted in tiny and completely minimal marking to the surfaces, although, mercifully, this one has remained very near mint, having had an additional protective poly cover added to the package many years ago - the labels are perfect and as-new - completely clean and bright with no spindle wear - cover excellent with nice glossy lamination - neat spine and edges - PVC inner sleeve is clean, crisp and largely unmarked - it is now missing the offending foam strip which is definitely, all things considered, an improvement!
