COLLIN BATES TRIO - " BREW ", Fontana (SFJL 913) Stereo, 1968
Impossibly rare, 1968, English 1st (and only) issue/pressing Fontana LP of the classic British jazz album by Collin Bates Trio.
Featuring original silver and blue Fontana labels and front laminated flipback sleeve.
Matrix numbers: 886502 1Y 1 / 886502 2Y 1 (I think that the fact this vinyl doesn't even have stamper numbers tells you all you need to know about how few of these records were pressed!!!)
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve.
CONDITION:
VINYL = NEAR MINT (No scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, barely a spindle trail, etc. Even under a bright grading lamp the vinyl is clean and free from marks/scratches and signs of use in general.
Plays beautifully throughout - strong, clean and without interuptions... no clicks, no crackles, no surface noise, or any other obvious audible signs of wear.
Based on both playback and visual appearance, this LP has obviously hardly ever been played in it's lifetime, probably just a handful of times at most - based on the predominantly easy listening collection it came from, (like the Tubby Hayes record I also have listed) I think this record was bought in error or was an unwanted gift... either way, it's obviously spent most of it's life on a shelf rather than a turntable. Hopefully the winner bidder will put that right and get more use out of this record than it's first owner did... there really is something about the way these late 60s British Jazz LPs sound, both recording and pressing, that is unique and very special.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = EX- (No rips, tears, monster creases, defacing, etc. Still flat and clean but with a few tiny creases in the laminate, a little light wear to the edges/corners, a crease in the card on the bottom right corner and a little patch of delamination on the front cover all mark it down a bit - see photos for further clarification)
NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts. Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records.
