This is the second of three volumes of Early Commodore Jazz recordings put together by Mosaic. Volume Two covers all the sessions recorded by the "Commodore" label between 1944-1945 and includes great jazz musicians, such as Sidney and Wilbur DeParis, Albert Ammons (with Don Byas), Eddie Heywood, Hot Lips Page (with Lucky Thompson, Earl Bostic, and Don Byas), Ben Webster, Billie Holiday, the Kansas City Six (with Buck Clayton and Lester Young), Muggsy Spanier, Pee Wee Russell, Miff Mole, Joe Bushkin (with Zoot Sims), George Zack, Max Kaminsky, Edmond Hall (with Teddy Wilson), Bobby Hackett, George Wettling and His Rhythm Kings, Red McKenzie, Jess Stacy, Jack Teagarden and Wild Bill Davison. Also included is a 48-page booklet that features 40 rare black and white photographs, detailed session production notes, and a 9-page interview with Milt Gabler, the Commodore Records founder. These sessions are as complete as possible, and in chronological order. Mosaic has used the best original source material available to release them in this LP box set.
