The special seven inch single & wild dub mix of "Row Fisherman Row"on ORIGINAL Black Art vinyl from 1977. From the sessions eventually also used for Lee Perry's landmark HEART OF THE CONGOS album. Scratch was reaching an artistic apex with his technical wizardry and spiritual zest just as The Congos (Cedric Myton, Roy Johnson & Watty Burnett) unleashed a wicked set of tunes infused with a cinematic dread vision of apocalypse and redemption. The soopah-doopah Super Ape Scratch shot for the moon and landed on Mars. The "Fisher Man Dub" side is especially extravagant and eccentric. Turn it up and feel the spirits roar.

David Katz writes in his amazing book PEOPLE FUNNY BOY -The Genius Of Lee "Scratch" Perry, "The first song the Congos put together at the Ark was the same 'Fisherman' that (Roy) Johnson had sung for Scratch - an adaptation of a traditional refrain with new lyrics that reflected their personal circumstances. Neither Perry nor the Congos thought the first take realised their full potential, so the group returned the next day to re-cut the tune with a different set of musicians, including drummer Paul Douglas and Geoffrey Chung on bass. Once 'Fisherman' was in shape, the group set to work on some of the other dozen songs they had written, completing several singles by the middle of June. Over a period of weeks, the Congos recorded regularly at the Black Ark, laying the foundations of what would prove to be an exemplary roots album of the highest order; HEART OF THE CONGOS. It was certainly the greatest album the Congos themselves would create, and was arguably the strongest album Lee Perry ever produced with a vocal group."

The ORIGINAL 7" Jamaican BLACK ART unique versions vinyl is in excellent condition. No skips, no warp, no scratches. Two very minor clicks at very start of vocal side only. A very clean pressing. No hand writing on either side of label. Handstamped VP Records on one side. Made in Jamaica.
