CS 6649 = SXL 6426 WB (1W/3W) Rostropovich Cello Piano
SOUND SAMPLE AUTO STARTED WHEN YOU OPENED THE PAGE,TURN UP THE VOLUME... and have a READ .
Pressed in the UK at Decca for the USA market, licensing of the decca label in USA prevented the UK product being sold as 'DECCA' so everything made in the same presses as the UK SXL series re branded as "London" records for export to USA. View My Feedback at top of this listing, then go to feedback given on Sept 14 2010, for my recent sale of the UK SXL 6426 wide band, to compare sound samples.) THIS LP PRESSED with the same stamper numbers as that ultra rare and desireable first edition wide band label SXL.
Cover EXC++++ LP NM Minus see below for detail.
Sample is of about 4 minutes 30 seconds of side 1, with a 20 second gap so I can flip the disc. Side 2 starts at 4 minutes 45 seconds until end of sample (8 mins 39 secs) NO VISIBLE MARKS ON THE RECORD, there are a ONLY A few very faint or fine paper scuffs, in bright sunlight only, nothing able to show in close up photo's, but this record has no effect from any small marks that are SUNLIGHT visible, all plays as same quality as this sample , As you can hear, very clean, the rest plays no worse than this. A few odd tics here and there, but nothing I would regard as anything other than normal vinyl replay.
I recently sold a wide band ed1 decca copy of this recording, (SXL 6426) . iF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COMPARE SIMILAR SOUND SAMPLES, open the other item in a seperate window, then pause and compare the other sound sample to this one to compare the cleanliness of both records. HOWEVER .....
This sound sample at a low resolution (192kbps) and full tone especially on computer speakers will not show, this is only to give an idea of how clean this record is, and even then there are some static crackles that you can hear due to the treble bias of the sample, that DO NOT sound on MY sound system.
Yes I have fully test played this after professionally washing it,
The reason the wide band UK SXL LABEL is so scarce of this pressing is that within a few months of release of this recording, 1970, Decca switched to the Narrow Band label for all new releases and subsequent re issues. It is my unconfirmed suspicion that this meant there was only 1 or two pressing runs done before the labels were changed.
NOTE I am not sure how long the same stamper was used to issue the LONDON USA release, but I don't find TOO many in auction histories at the known ebay auction tracking sites going back over the last 4 years. IN Fact less than a couple of dozen as opposed to over 100 wide band label SXL, so my question is WHICH ONE IS RARER......?
Summary rating DISC NM-, cover EXC+++ Odd rating I know, (EXC+++) but its just a couple of creases in cover slightest corner bumps, MINIMAL EDGE WEAR and lightest of ringwear to the unlaminated front cover with the few paper scuffs that keep this from NM see details below for Stamper numbers proving this is pressed from a first stamper.

Professionally cleaned, and FULLY Test played. This is a UK pressed COPY of the rare DECCA SXL 6426 LP, pressed on the LONDON LABEL with the SAME STAMPERS in the SAME MANUFACTURING PLANT
The UK WIDE BAND stereo edition goes for serious money (check out popsike)
If you can get a cleaner sounding UK copy, for this money, I suggest you go buy it. Plays very cleanly, only the faintest of vinyl noise in this with normal RARE occasional tics, but not distracting. There is no loud music to mask any vinyl damage noise.
so here's a good way to get the music on a record that besides some random soft static like pops in quiet passages , has only paper scuffs in bright light . Both sides OCCASIONAL pops and tics especially in quiet passages nothing repetetive more than 2 quiet pips anywhere.
Rarely ever seen in Australia (THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I HAVE EVER SEEN, out of tens of thousands OF RECORDS INSPECTED!!!!!)
LP test played after wet wash bath,
Except for the VERY FEW QUIET PIPS as mentioned ROSTROPOVICH has a brilliance on the CELLO and coupled with Benjamin Britten on Piano, this is a dynamically and musically outstanding recording. AS a cello player myself, it was a pure joy to test play this LP in preparation for sale. The full recording has to be heard, so if you haven't already heard them , vote now........

In other words, buyers asking me to understate the customs declaration on this item need not bid, as I flatly refuse under international law to do so. (Last Buyer who did that gave neg feedback (it was retracted obviously) as they thought it was my fault they had taxes to pay(?????)
