The soundtrack to Gordon Parks Jr.'s 1972 film is one of the defining records of the blaxploitation era — and one of the great soul albums of the decade, full stop. Curtis Mayfield wrote, arranged, and performed every track, delivering a street-level moral commentary that cut against the grain of the film it scored. "Freddie's Dead" and "Pusherman" were major chart singles. "Superfly," "Little Child Runnin' Wild," and "No Thing on Me (Cocaine Song)" round out a front-to-back cohesive listen that holds up completely.

This is an original US first pressing on Curtom Records, CRS 8014 ST, distributed by Buddah Records. The label carries the 1650 Broadway, N.Y.C. address — the early pressing identifier. Later issues switched to the 810 Seventh Avenue address.

Mastered at Bell Sound Studios, New York, by Sam Feldman — whose "sf" initials appear etched in the deadwax on both sides alongside the Bell Sound stamp. Bell Sound was one of New York's premier mastering facilities of the era, and Feldman's work here is well regarded by collectors. Worth noting: "Pusherman" was also recorded at Bell Sound Studios, making the mastering provenance particularly fitting for this album.

Yellow-orange Curtom sunburst label with "WE'RE A WINNER" sub-text. Exclusively distributed by Buddah Records, 1650 Broadway, N.Y.C. Original die-cut Unipak cover — the Superfly logo and character cut-out flap opens from the spine edge to expose the sleeve opening, the correct original configuration. Later pressings dropped the die-cut entirely.
