This handsome and very rare LP from London (LLP 395, LP pressed in the UK, jacket printed in the USA, red/gold label, mono) features two masterly performances by the great violinist Alfredo Campoli, each showcasing different facets of his truly remarkable artistry.
Included are the following works:
Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor Op. 26
Royalton Kisch conducting the New Symphony Orchestra
(rec. at Kingsway Hall, London on 17 April 1951)
J.S. Bach: Partita for Solo Violin No. 2 in D minor BWV 1004
(rec. at Decca’s West Hampstead Studios, London, on 17 June / 27 September 1948)
Whether in the quicksilver brilliance of the Bruch or the grave nobility of the Bach, Campoli proves himself a revelatory guide and this disc serves as a superb calling card of one of the most interesting violinists of the last century.
There are extensive liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side of the jacket, provided in English only. The striking cover design is similarly uncredited, a pity given that it is decidely more attractive than the LXT issue of these performances.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is the barest beginning of split (about ½” to the lower edge, as well as general aging and a small crease to the upper-left corner, but that is all. There are no owners’ markings, bends, seamsplits, or other defects, and the album is still solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD+. Though there is light surface noise throughout, as well as some soft tics in the Bach, in general playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
