Carla Bley (p, comp) with Mike Mantler (t, comp); Steve Lacy (ss); Kent Carter (b); and Aldo Romano (d).


Recorded in Baarn, Holland, on 11 january 1966.

This Issue: Unique covert art, front and back, by Marte Röling, in the style that she made famous for Fontana.

Front: Fontana logo upper right; album title and artists' names stenciled, in three lines, near top. Three of their portraits, mostly in outline, below. "STEREO" in a box, lower left. Back: Same stenciled lettering for album title and artists' names at top, left. "stereo 881 010 ZY" in boldface, top right. Artist photos and bios in first two of three columns. Track information in third column with Röling photo and bio underneath. Near bottom, small reproductions of other Fontana releases. At bottom: "Manufactured and distributed by Nippon Phonogram Co., Ltd. Tokyo. Made in Japan. JASRAC", with translation into japanese below that. At right, in a box: "X~ N 6 21".

Manufactured, direct from the original master, and distributed by Nippon Phonogram. Liner notes in japanese on extra, full-size, slipped-in sheet.

Center Labels and Runouts:
Top crescent, silver background with "fontana", stylized, in dark blue letters. Rest has dark-blue background with silver lettering. "All Rights" statement in top half at rim. Series of boxes straddle center hole, with "331/3", "STEREO", "195J-22", and other pieces of information. Album title, followed by names of tunes, names of artists, and recording information in ten lines below hole. Underneath: "195-J22 (881 010 ZY)". Last line: "(3)".

Condition of Record: NM. As close to Mint as NM gets: not a mark, no spindle wear or wear of any kind at all. Only dust that formed was from static, when I removed the record from its original plastic sleeve to shoot the photos.
Condition of Cover: Front completely unmarked, with no bends or crimping; near perfect. Belly band with japanese writing attached. Back cover also excellent, all photos and text clean and clear. Spine text, at very top and bottom, a little worn. Closed end corners not at all bumped; show a tiny bit of wear. Open-end corners perfect. Top horizontal edge has a quarter-inch of wear; bottom horizontal edge shows more shelfwear.
I'm the original owner of the record. I have carefully kept it stored upright on a shelf, away from sunlight, in its sleeve and cover.

I'm an independent seller divesting his own record collection. I'm not selling from a store or warehouse, with multiple copies of titles, or on behalf of a professional collector.


Shipping: Ebay requires seller to indicate shipping methods and other particulars, then automatically inserts the cost at the top of the listing. Buyer will pay amount as determined by destination, by shipping method he chooses, and by required insurance (see: below); I don't gouge the price to make more profit. (USPS Media Mail is cheapest; I will provide prices for US Priority, or for FedEx or UPS ground, if requested.)


Insurance is mandatory on shipments to US addresses: The final price of the item determines the amount of insurance required. Please wait till I inform you of your total cost prior to submitting payment. It and not Ebay's stated cost is the amount to be paid.


**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express provides a return receipt. (Check USPS's website for shipping prices.) If you want a private-company shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction. First-Class-Package service, which doesn't include insurance, is an option; the shipping cost will be lower, but if your item doesn't arrive you have no recourse. The risk is yours.


Packing: The LP will be carefully placed in the standard cardboard LP box. If you want cardboard inserts for extra reinforcement, please say so.


Payment: Although Ebay now processes payments directly, I also accept Paypal. I accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.


Returns: Returns will be accepted in cases of error in description.
