This crossover LP from Carlos Santana under his Buddhist name is hardly ever offered for sale in this condition.
“Carlos proves to the world that he's still got his jazz chops in the right direction – even during his stardom of the mid-70s.”
This is the extremely rare real thing: a genuine EX/EX condition UK first pressing. The record is in Excellent condition and the cover and insert are also in Excellent condition. All items are free from any major defects like scratches, tears, dog-ears, writing, stains or the like. See pics. All items are the genuine originals bought together by me in 1974, not reprints or replacements. The LP is the original 1974 UK stereo LP, which was only played once or twice on top-end audiophile equipment and lovingly cared for.
“This symphonic spiritual revelation conjured with Alice Coltrane and other ace musicians like Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette really reaches the heights only an angel can venture.”
THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS ALBUM EVER OFFERED FOR SALE IN RECENT TIMES
Illuminations is a 1974 collaboration between Carlos Santana and Alice Coltrane. Jazz musicians Jules Broussard, Jack DeJohnette and Dave Holland also contributed to the record, on saxophone, flute, drums and bass. Alice Coltrane delivers some harp glissando, while the string orchestra adds a serene mood to the music. Carlos Santana (whose Indian name "Devadip" appears on the sleeve) plays electric guitar in his own fashion, utilizing feedback, long notes and simple melodies, letting much space to the other instruments. The album is conceived as an instrumental jazz album, with lengthy solos on guitar, saxophone and keyboards. The introduction to "Angel of Air", with its violins, has been sampled by the Cinematic Orchestra. It’s his first of three solo-albums (the others: Oneness and The swing of delight) to be released under his temporary Buddhist name Devadip Carlos Santana.
This may be your only ONCE IN A LIFETIME chance to own this rare piece of music history in this condition.
“Alice's orchestral string arrangements and harp add a romantic feel to this album, which can be described as a symphonic-jazz fusion.”
For his third duet album, Carlos Santana performed the works of John Coltrane, paired with Coltrane's widow, harpist/keyboardist Alice Coltrane, on this instrumental album. Side One includes several contemplative, string-filled numbers, while Side Two presents Santana's re-creation of John Coltrane's late free jazz style in "Angel of Sunlight." Columbia Records could not have been pleased at Santana's determined drift into esoteric jazz: Illuminations was the first of the nine Santana-related albums so far released in the U.S. not to go gold.
A fantastic time warp example of this rarity in amazing condition, a true investment grade item - get it while you can!
AND IT MUST SELL IN THIS ONCE ONLY AUCTION
