Description

Cavalcade of Bands on 5" 3 3/4 IPS reel to reel tape.  Featuring Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Les Brown, Charlie Barnet, Ralph Flanagan, Jack Teagarden, Red Nichols, Lawrence Welk, and Ted Weems.  This set is in great shape with minimal wear and no splits.  This recording is selections from the TV show "Cavalcade of Bands" that aired 1950-51.  I'm not able to find much other info about this seemingly rare recording.  
After receiving a question about this item I have done some more homework.  This tape is labeled “2 Track Mono” as you can see in the photo.  But the spine is labeled 4 track stereo.  In reality, it’s neither.  To the best of my ability to decipher, this is a quarter track mono recording.  On a traditional 4 track recording the Side 1 left audio corresponds track 1, Side 1 right to track 3, Side 2 left to track 2, and Side 2 right to track 4.  During playback, in both directions, audio is only present in the left hand channel.  I guess it’s possible someone erased the right channel in both directions but that seems unlikely.  Its also possible it’s meant for staggered heads which is why I’m not catching anything in the right channel.  In any case, it’s quite an unusual item and probably meant to be purchased more for its uniqueness than audio quality.  I’m relisting the item as-is.
