Description
Here's McKENZIE'S CANDY KIDS, a.k.a. The Mound City Blues Blowers. This unique ensemble, with Red McKenzie on comb-and-tissue, Dick Slevin on kazoo, Jack Bland, banjo and the great Eddie Lang on guitar, was a sensation in America and England, and earned respect for "Scorned Instruments," of which I consider McKenzie to be an ideal exemplar. On other sides, he goes head-to-head with heavyweights like Jack Teagarden and Coleman Hawkins, armed with naught but his humble comb-and-tissue, and does not come off second best.
On this record, we have the ironically titled "HAPPY CHILDREN BLUES," backed with the decidedly non-ironic "THE MORNING AFTER BLUES."
This record must be exceedingly scarce. I have seen only two copies in all my time in collecting, but piles of all the other MCBB and McKenzie releases.
This original 1925 Vocalion 15088 is in sturdy and serviceable V+ condition. Plays well, with some surface noise, and the pink ink on the label of "Morning After" comes at no extra charge.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
