Description

This is an auction of a Charles Mingus - Mingus at Monterey - rare 2 LP on Mingus' own label - Charles Mingus Records JWS-001/JWS-002 stereo with rare "Letter" inserted by Mingus to request donations - a stinging indictment of the recording industry and his abuse by previous record label owners - sad reading and a profound commentary how a musical genius like Mingus' was nearly impoverished at the end of his life. This LP was not pressed by Fantasy, but was distributed by Fantasy records and Saul Zaentz ( later of of Tom Fogarty's "Zaentz Can't Dance" fame...) and has that info on the back of the gatefold cover.

Records are visually graded as Mint- to VG++, cover is VG or so with some ring and edge wear including at upper right a 2" and a 4" split. The "letter" is Mint-.
