 MAYBE TRUE ROMANCE IS A LITTLE OVER MY HEAD. First off I'm definitely gonna date myself with this one. You've all heard Swedish electro-pop duo Icona Pop's 2012 global smash "I Love It" which was co-written by Charli XCX. In it she emphasizes a generational divide with the lyrics "You're from the 70s/ And I'm a 90s bitch." Being that Charli was born in 1992 and I was born well before that, well you get it. The album is filled with hooks, bathed in updated electro pop sounds and dripping with lyrics about falling in and out of love. And there are those of out there that are absolutely going to love it. I mean Pitchfork blessed "True Romance" with an 8.3! I remember when they were reviewing Papa M and Mountain Goats records and heaping praise on them. Not necessarily apples and oranges I guess, but you catch my drift.
