Here is a unique opportunity to acquire the first four annual volumes of the non-commercial 2-LP gatefold sets of radio-station WFMT Radiothon compilations from the 1980s. That’s 8 LPs of never-before-released CSO performances in mint condition--for both records and jackets. Highlights: VOL. 1 “The Reiner Era”: Schumann Sym. No. 2, Schoenberg “Transfigured Nights,” Vaughan Williams “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis,” and short works by Wagner and Berlioz. VOL. 2 “Soloists of the Orchestra” (my particular favorite): Vaughan Williams: Tuba Concerto, Schuller Double Bass Concerto, Martinu: Double Concerto for 2 String Orchestra and Timpani, Telemann: Trumpet Concerto (w/Herseth), Telemann: 3-Horn Concerto (w/Clevenger), Copland: Clarinet Concerto (w/Combs), and Creston: Trombone Concerto. VOL. 3 “100th Ann. of Reiner’s Birth”: Beethoven: Symphony No. 4, Haydn: Symphony No. 104, Hindemith: Cello Concerto (w/Starker), and overtures by Wagner and Berlioz. VOL. 4 “Tribute to Solti”: Bartok: Dance Suite, Nielsen: Symphony No. 1, Strauss: “Death and Transfiguration,” Ravel: “La Valse,” and short works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Glinka, and Liszt.
