Offered at auction with no reserve, a super-rare set of test pressings of Classic Records re-issue of RCA LSO6006 Harry Belafonte at Carnegie Hall. Sound quality of these re-issues is legendary and they don't get any better than these test pressings. Each disc is pressed on only one side to realize the full potential of the 45 rpm recording technology. Dynamic range is incredible. This appears to be the full set, though I can't be certain. The first 7 discs make sense, labeled A1,A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 and D1. The only odd thing is that the last disc is labeled D3 - maybe an alternate pressing or mastering of the second half of side four of the original RCA set? There were 8 LPs in the final release and there are 8 LPs here, so probably complete, but I can't be sure without opening discs D1 and D3, both of which are sealed. Four of the discs have been played. Of those, three appear to be in as new condition - would grade visually as NM. I have not played these at this time to evaluate play grade. The first disc in the set has been played a few times and has acquired some visible light scratches and scuffs. I have listened all the way through that disc and found that there are some soft clicks on Darlin' Cora and Sylvie and one tick at the beginning of Cotton Fields. In my opinion, these don't distract at all from the music - but your results may vary. I'd rate this disc VG+ to EX. The last four discs (presumably sides 3 and 4 of the original RCA two disc set) are still sealed, so in Mint Condition. All but one of the jackets have their protective vinyl sleeves. Disc one has no sleeve and shows very light smudges. I have owned this set since new, and always stored the LPs on edge. I will pack with care and ship via priority mail.
