Description

Columbia Records Masterworks SET No.163 Eight 78 RPM Records in Original folder.Electrical Recording. Robert Lortat Plays Chopin THE COMPLETE PIANO ETUDES. Blue and Gold pressing . The folder is quite worn, see photo. The discs are in excellent condition. No scratches or scuffs. A couple of surface marks that do NOT affect the playing. Robert Lortat was born in Paris on September 12, 1885. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Diémer and won multiple prizes during his time there. He debuted in Paris in 1910 and later toured Germany. Lortat served in World War I, but was wounded and discharged. He returned to performing and made his U.S. debut in 1916. Although he played music of many composers, Lortat's recordings, made in the late 1920s, are devoted entirely to Chopin. Lortat died in 1938.
