With Columbus, Georgia, as their home base, they continue to bring numerous blessings to audiences across the nation who appreciate and love the ideals expressed in old-fashioned, spirit-filled, sacred entertainment. In this era of troublous times and uncertainty, their dedication and God given talents bring hope and comfort to all who hear and love them. Because of a muscular deficiency since birth, Oma and Bessie Lawson, sisters, and their brother, Hurstle Lawson, have never walked. One finds this almost in- credible when meeting them personally, because the quality of the performance is amazing. Confined to wheel chairs, they do far more than sing. Their dynamic personalities reach out to their audiences, and one feels that their singing comes from the well springs of their hearts. Born into the home of a Baptist minister, who loved music, they grew up on a farm in East Tennessee beneath the shadows of the Great Smoky Mountains. In the tradition of the faith of their parents and like the prophet of old, they said: “We will lift up our eyes unto the hills”. With no thought for their own affliction, they have dedicated their lives to their fellow man, and to the glorification of God. A faithful and loyal friend and a member of this group for 21 years, is Ernest Hamby, a native Tennesseean also. He not only sings baritone with the quartet but has written and published many hit gospel selections. He has driven the quartet’s station wagon an estimated 1,250,000 miles throughout the length and breadth of our great land. His talents and devotion to other members of the group have been invaluable. Dave Collins, who is piano accompanist and arranger of many of the songs, can be heard in several solos in this album. Dave was born and reared in Columbus. He later attended Southeastern College in Lakeland, Florida, where he majored in education. His work as an ordained minister carried him over wide areas of the eastern United States and Mid-West. He recently returned to Columbus from Chicago and resides there with his wife, the former Miss Ann Lolley of St. Peters- burg, and his beautiful little daughter, Djuana Lynnae. Their tours of America have endeared this wonderful group to a wide audience who will be delighted to hear this inspiring and beautiful album, “I Know Jesus”, a true expression of the abiding faith and religious fervor of this organization.
