The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis (Mosaic MR3-103)
This was only the third set that Mosaic released, produced while the soon-to-be-celebrated company was still in Santa Monica. If Blue Note showed respect for this rarefied music in recording it, in 1935-'41, rescuing the boogie-woogie piano idiom showed just how passionate Mosaic was becoming about bringing to light again even obscure styles from jazz history.
After all, boogie-woogie piano, an adaptation of blues dance music, developed in noisy joints, in early twentieth-century, midwest-US work camps. The heavily percussive sound resulted from its progenitors having to pound poor instruments in order to be heard.
Ammons and Lewis were the two greatest boogie-woogie performers, their technical mastery of the challenging style emerging from that of Pinetop Smith. Mosaic presents 9 tracks by Ammons, 23 by Lewis, and two remarkable duets, including "Twos and Fews".
The booklet includes essays by Max Harrison and Dan Morgenstern, as well as reproductions of classic Blue Note advertisements and an article from Society Rag, written by William Russell with a piano transcription.

Box cover photo and box all-round in very good condition; booklet is fine - except for Mosaic having put my name on the inside cover. (It asked me to review the music.) All three LPs in their original, rice-paper sleeves, as seen in photo.
Mine is the best price for the set on Ebay at the time of this posting.

**For winners outside US**: USPS shipping options are International Priority and International Express. Both methods include insurance but only Express has tracking. If you want a different shipper, I will quote you the cost at end of auction.
Packing: I place single LPs in protective plastic sleeves, then reinforce the corners with cardboard. With box sets, I use bubble wrap to protect and stabilize the box inside the mailer. All mailers are the standard ones for LPs.
Payment: I accept Paypal. I also accept cash in cases of in-person deliveries.

Note on condition: I grade records visually. Following are the definitions of the grading that I use:
N A record known to be new. This includes factory sealed records.
N- A record that's known or assumed to have been played. May have some surface scuff marks from removing and reinserting record in sleeve. May have slight spindle wear. Otherwise, appears same as N in all respects.
VG++ More handling marks visible than on N-, but should play like a new record.
VG+ No more than a few minor scratches or marks which are audible. Such scratches or other defects will usually be described in specific detail. Record will usually not have any groove wear.
VG More than a few minor audible defects, but no steady noise. No appreciable groove wear.
