Description

For sale an Original US First Press of the Beach Boys' Legendary Pioneering Psychedelic/Surf-Rock Concept Album "Pet Sounds" in MONO, the only format in which its innovator Brian Wilson intended it to be heard. This highly-sought, true collectible copy is in astonishing condition and comes complete with the original inner sleeve. The real deal. For serious collectors only.

BEFORE BIDDING on this item please read the conditions at the bottom of this listing carefully and in full. Any questions, feel free to message me.

The Vinyl is VG++ deep dark gloss, shiny as a new record. Playback is clean and bright, full fidelity, faint intermittent background crackle that does not interfere with listening experience (even during track transitions-- listen below), just enough to give it that warm vinyl sound. Disc has a few superficial paper sleeve nicks (currently stored outside sleeve in new poly-lined inner) and visual scuffs that do not affect playback, including one through the end of Side 2 Track 4 that looks like a scratch but cannot be felt and is not audible on my system. Only imperfection that can be felt with a fingernail is a tiny speck at the end of Side 2 Track 1 "God Only Knows" that is also not audible (second audio clip below). Labels are pristine, rainbows perfectly centered (see pics), no visible spindle marks. Most would grade this as EX, but I use Goldmine Standard which does not include EX. Far too fine to be merely VG+, but just shy enough of NM- not to qualify. So VG++ it is.

Sleeve is surprisingly clean and would be ideal for framing. VG+ rich colors, tight seams, fully legible spine (see pics). Front has virtually no ring wear and rear shows little fading, mostly around the edges. Finish on the spine displays a bit of weakness from age, but other than a few tiny chips it is strong fully intact-- no separation, no splits. Corners are soft (wouldn't quite call them "bumped") but strong except for bottom spine corner, which has slight cracking on catalog number (see detail pic), still legible. Rear has 1/8" tall name in blue pen top right (see detail pic) and dry sticker residue with a 1/2" tall letter D in black marker top left. Small ripple in the finish on front beneath the Capitol logo (too subtle to capture in pic). No splits, no stains, no creases. Overall, this is one of the cleanest covers I've ever seen for this album, especially around the edges where almost all early Capitol pressing turn yellow (especially the MONO releases for some reason, different material?). Original company inner is crisp and bright, free from stains and warp, all three seams strong with no splits. One corner is creased (see pic) and some tiny nicks at the opening, otherwise immaculate.

Recording is of actual record with no alteration. Click to listen: Side 1  - Side 2
