Note about white label promotional LPs:

People often ask "what's so special about promo LPs?" on music forums, and there's no simple answer because there are several factors involved.  For one thing, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the promotional LPs are going to be the earliest of the 1st pressing.  First pressings are desirable in their own right because they were first, and promotional copies take the "first pressing" aspect one step further.  If the artist had anything to do with the production, or at least approving the final mixes and test pressings (which they almost always did), then a near mint original first pressing made from the original master tape is as close as you can get to what the artist intended for you to hear.  Early pressings were made when the tapes were fresh and the stampers were new and unworn, and when you get a good one, they often have a 'sound' that later audiophile reissues can never quite match (for any number of reasons).

There is also the instantly identifiable nature of a promo copy.  Most classic albums have been reissued many, MANY times, but unless you know how to read the dead-wax markings and have other frames of reference, in many cases it can be hard to determine whether a record is a first pressing or not.  With rare exception, a promotional copy is by definition a first issue / first pressing, and you don't have to be an expert seller or an expert collector to recognize a promotional LP.  And for some reason, it seems that a LOT of promo LPs were either very well taken care of, or simply not played much (if at all), which means the condition is often exceptional.

Vinyl Grade: Near Mint.  There are NO spindle marks on EITHER label.  Appears to be UNPLAYED. 

The vinyl shines like new.  If you hold the vinyl at just the right angle to the light there is some light "mottling" (for lack of a better term) that is seen on many older records, it almost looks like someone cleaned it and when it dried it left some very light water spots.  I don't know what causes this, or whether some records came out that way when they were manufactured, but I see it on many older records.  It is only visible if the light catches it.  It also plays near mint, as well as any new LP sounded when made in 1970.  I play my records LOUD, there are NO repeating "clicks" (there are no scratches or other marks in the vinyl to cause any such "clicks"), and besides a little normal static on the run-in grooves, only an occasional soft 'pop' which I would expect to disappear with a careful cleaning.  By way of comparison, I have LOTS of 180g and 200g "audiophile" records that don't play this clean.

Best of all, this one has "the magic" in the grooves, the sound is outstanding.  You can tell from the opening guitar notes of "Carry On" that you are in for a treat.  The white label promo of this LP is known for having great sound quality for an album that has turned out to be a problematic recording to get "right" on reissues.  The beauty of an original first pressing is that there is no doubt the original master tape was used, and this LP was 'cut' when the tapes were fresh.

If you have done your research, you will recognize that this example has the desirable matrix information (-C / -C matrix endings) inscribed in the run-out grooves:

Cover Grade:  Near Mint, as you can see from the open gatefold photo, the right hand side it is "up" it has never been opened all the way, there is nothing holding it up in the picture.  If I pushed the right hand side of the cover down, the left hand side would raise up.  The spine is still stiff as when new.  Has the "Promotional Copy" sticker on the front.

Packaging: Albums with gatefold covers will have the LP secured outside the cover, between the front and back covers of the gatefold, in order to eliminate the possibility of seam splits.  The LP and cover are then placed inside a clear outer protective sleeve, and sealed.  The (now sealed) album is then sandwiched between two large cardboard stiffener pads, carefully centered and taped together.  This keeps the LP stationary and the album cover centered, allowing the oversized cardboard reinforcement pads to protect the edges and corners of the cover from dings.

The album “sandwich” is then packaged with bubble-wrap and Styrofoam peanuts in an oversize box.  The box is large enough that it should easily withstand even being dropped directly on its corner without damaging the cover inside.  I know very well what it is like to receive poorly packaged records, so I am careful to make sure your album is safely packaged and arrives safely.

Tracking: You should automatically receive your Tracking Number by email when the Shipping Label is printed.

No Return Policy:  This collectible LP is long out of print, not replaceable and fragile by nature.  I have packaged many hundreds of valuable record LPs over the years, but most people have not, and it's not an easy thing to do properly.  When I have accepted returns in the past, both times (yes, I've had two albums returned in the last 14 years) they arrived with damage to the cover.  I realize it's not intentional, but it happens.  One trip through the postal system is enough, so this album is offered with eBay's 'No Return' policy in effect for this listing.  As always, if there is a problem with the album itself (e.g., item is somehow not as described), just let me know, I am a reasonable person and eBay's money back guarantee is still in effect.  Of course if the album is damaged during transit please let me know immediately and SAVE the packaging because it is needed for the Insurance claim.  We will get the Insurance claim filed right away and process your refund as quickly as possible.  Please check my feedback, you will see that I only offer top quality record albums and my customers are happy!
