:Info on this Uber rare "tax scam release":
Hollywood multi-instrumentalist John Agostino was completely unaware that his 1974 tender psych-folk miniature was ever released. Miscredited to the invented artist Crystal Ball, his mystifying album is a curious example of a tax scam record in which shady labels would purposely form loss-making subsidiaries to write off for tax credit. Obtaining masters through dubious means, the labels would relegate entire pressings to deadstock warehouses, lazily leaking only a handful of copies into market. As was typically the case, Agostino’s culprits even took liberties in designing album art and naming what was essentially an unauthorized collection of unfinished material.
This record also receives a very favorable review by Patrick Lundborg in his book “Acid Archives The Second Edition” published in 2010. Among the things Patrick writes about this LP are, “Here’s one of the rarest (only three known copies) and most distinctly psychedelic of all tax scam records, one that if it were better known would be a major collectible. It’s probably the most significant and fascinating record released by the slippery folks at Album World. Need I say more..
