Description
Rare and collectable spiral label/HIPGNOSIS cover album "OAKDOWN FARM" from the American band DADDY LONGLEGS on VERTIGO RECORDS - 6360 038 ~ (Stereo 1971)
This is in standard 136 gram weight vinyl and has the matrix numbers "6360038 1Y//1 1 1 5" on side A and "6360038 2Y//1 1 1 1" on side B, (6360 038 is twice repeated on the labels); these Mother and Stamper numbers show the record is a first pressing copy!
This auction then is for a well known LP on the rare and collectable Vertigo spiral label, in near mint condition, from this UK based USA outfit, recorded in the Sound Techniques London studio where Pink Floyd recorded their early stuff and who they also (very strangely!) supported at least once.
Check my bidder’s feedback - you will see I describe my records 100% truthfully so you can bid in confidence.
The record itself is exceptionally clean on both sides, with just a couple of spindle marks on the labels, which have no stickers or writing on them - I have played this of course, but only a handful of times and so it still has a tight spindle hole.
There are NO sleeve marks on the record surfaces, NO surface noise, NO clicks or jumps and NO crackles or pops and obviously, NO scratches!
It plays really well, having been played once when I bought it, about twice in the intervening 47 years and again just now to check it out before doing this listing, so I grade it as near mint.
The gatefold cover is a heavy matt card, unlaminated type and is very good except for minor shelf wear, NO pressure marks, NO writing, marks or stickers (see the pictures).
The sleeve is the correct square lower corners, radiused top, printed spiral, plastic lined paper one, with some old folds, some age browning, but no writing, marks or tears.
Using the Record Collector grading system; the vinyl is thus better than EXCELLENT on both sides, so NEAR MINT, the cover is also EXCELLENT and the sleeve is VERY GOOD.
I never saw this band and this is another record that I bought solely on sight because it was cheap in a record sale in Harrods in Knightsbridge, (a great place back then for buying recent records of the day at low very cost in the January sales!), I did not like it at all so never played it! (So no point in keeping it really).
I put a link to one of the band’s members, who is still going, for those who wish to have a bit more background on this lot, who are a sort of acid folk-rock outfit I suppose.

The history of playing of this record is known since I bought it new, generally all my records are from my own personal collection, built up since the early 1960’s and have genuinely been played very little and then only on quality turntables, (Garrard Zero 100, Lab 80 and Goldring GL75), set up with a low tracking force, using Shure, then Grado then Stanton cartridges over the years. All records have been dry stored, vertically, in the dark in a proper custom made record shelving system and only ever played by myself and NEVER loaned to anyone and especially, never, ever partied!
If you are interested in early British R & B and Progressive Rock Bands and the USA West Coast bands of the time then please add me to your favourites as I do have some rarities that I have never seen on eBay. I generally do not go in for all the b******s about rare first pressings and the excessive detailing of group histories that I see other sellers boring eBay members with, and will describe the records honestly, just indicating the basics.
