What a gorgeous 78 from DALE HAWKINS. This is UNPLAYED OLD STORE STOCK! On the CHECKER record label. The record # is: 876. The song "Baby, Baby" is on Side A. and on Side B. is: "Mrs. Merguitory's Daughter". This is one of the rarest 78 records to find in good condition... this is absolutely stunning! Not a heavy mark or heavy scuff on the playing surface! There are no edge chips. This record is in E+ to N- condition! The labels are in E+ to N- condition, with no writing or wear... they look brand new! What a great, well cared for record. Checker Record collectors... if you were looking for a flawless DALE HAWKINS... here it is! I have just made a major purchase of ultra rare rock, jazz & blues albums! They were from Radio Station Promotion Manager Lester "Len" Miller and are from his personal collection.
He roared out of Northwest Louisiana in the mid 50s, a whirlwind of creativity about to leave his indelible mark on the music world. It was a time when exposure to many kinds of music was the norm, and Dale absorbed them all like a sponge. But his distinct preference for black music would always exert the greatest influence, giving his music a harder edge than that of most of his contemporaries.
His swamp rock classic, "Susie Q," crackles with the manic energy of that restless time, and conjures instant images of steamy Southern nights. It features a 15-year-old James Burton on guitar, the first of many guitar wizards Dale would discover and nurture. Others included Scotty Moore, Joe Osborn, Roy Buchanan, Fred Carter, Jr., and Kenny Paulsen.
Dale's early experiments in production in the studios of Shreveport's KWKH with Merle Kilgore and Johnny Horton developed the skills that would later produce hits for the Uniques, Five Americans, Jon & Robin & the In Crowd, Michael Nesmith, Harry Nilsson, and others. Along the way, he even found time to host "The Big Big Beat" aka "The Dale Hawkins Show" on WCAU-TV in Philadelphia.
In 1999, just in time for his first appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Dale released his first album of new material in 30 years. Released on Mystic, it was called "Wildcat Tamer." It garnered exceptional reviews, including a four star rave from Greil Marcus in Rolling Stone. Following JazzFest, Dale also made an appearance at the Chicago Blues Festival, where he took part in a historic reunion of Chess recording artists.

N- NEW MINUS: Full Original Luster. Appears Unplayed With No Signs Of Use. Highest Grade Used. Possible Slight Sleeve Or Storage Marks.
E+ EXCELLENT PLUS: Full Luster, Very Few Careful Plays. Slightest Indication Of Use Or Handling. Condition Is Just Slightly Below New Minus.
E EXCELLENT: Almost Full Luster. Mild Signs Of Careful Play But No Serious Scratches Or Scuffs. Highly Desirable Condition.
E- EXCELLENT MINUS: Some Luster Remains. Surface Shows Some Light Groove Wear, Light Scuffs And/Or Light Scratches. Still Pretty Clean. Acceptable To Most Collectors.
V+ VERY GOOD PLUS: Groove Wear, Scuffs And Scratches Are More Pronounced. Moderate Gray. Still A Decent Used Record With Moderate Surface Noise.
V VERY GOOD: Grooves Are Mostly Or Fully Gray Showing Deeper Wear. Obvious Surface Noise. Getting Rough Looking And Playing. An “Average Used 78” Is In The V To V+ Range.
V- VERY GOOD MINUS: Further Deterioration. Fully Gray With Deeper Groove Wear Causing Heavier Surface Noise.
G GOOD: Very Rough. Heavy Use. Deeply Gray. Surface Noise About Equals Music Level.
F FAIR: Really Beat. May Skip. Surface Noise Probably Exceeds Music Level.
