Description
This remains one of the best and most desirable Bowie collectables of the last 20 years! This is the VERY SPECIAL PROMO-ONLY "Press Kit" for the RYKODISC issue of "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars".
The package comes in a gatefold LP sleeve which contains a vinyl copy of the album, a CD and a press kit which includes two official Ryko sheets of information including details of the “trade in your RCA CD“ which Ryko were doing at the time, plus a photocopy of a Rolling Stone article from August 1987 which ranked Ziggy Stardust as the 6th best album of the last 20 years, and a promotional 8" x 10" glossy photograph containing two images of Bowie as Ziggy Stardust taken by Sukita in August 1972.
The Press-Kit's inner gatefold sleeve also features information about the Ziggy Stardust and Ryko re-release programme and is headed with the announcement: HERE'S WHAT YOUR ZIGGY STARDUST ALBUM USED TO SOUND LIKE.....HERE'S HOW IT SHOULD HAVE SOUNDED. LISTEN TO IT AGAIN, FOR THE FIRST TIME. This is what makes this pack so brilliant because on the inside of the gatefold is an ADVANCE PIC DISC CD version of the "Ziggy Stardust " Ryko CD with the 5 bonus tracks and over-printed FOR PROMOTION ONLY. But the gem of the set is a vinyl copy of the album which Ryko have made to look like the original RCA release. The RCA logo has been mimicked as RYK, it is “Dynoflex” (geddit?) and the original US serial number (LSP 4702) has been replaced amusingly with LSD 4702. The album itself is a faithful copy of the original album (no bonus tracks) but mastered to include hiss and clicks and background noise. The whole package is very clever and really well done. The entire pack is in 100% mint and unplayed condition.
Please note that I have seen copies of this item with the printed face of the CD disfigured or with the CD missing totally. For some reason when they were compiling these packs the CD had a tendency to stick to the wallet and removing it caused damage to the printed face. This CD has NEVER been removed from the wallet and is in perfect condition, removing it is likely to cause damage to the printed surface. So, if you are the winning bidder think twice before attempting to remove the CD.
The whole package is mint NEVER been played at ALL and is 100% complete. This was NEVER commercially available and is a handsome and collectable package of one of the most important records of all time!
