RUTH ETTING, one of the great popular singers of the '20s and '30s, cuts loose with this Great Depression-inflected ballad, "DON'T TELL HER (HIM!) WHAT HAPPENED TO ME." A song in which most of the action takes place OUTSIDE of the actual lyrics, one may infer that the singer has fallen on hard times indeed. "THE KISS WALTZ" - the hit song from "Dancing Sweeties" (as far as I know, a Lost Film), is on the flip. Ruth acquits herself impeccably on both.
This original 1930 "Viva-Tonal" Columbia 2280-D is in very nice, solid E condition. A tiny rim flake on "Kiss" comes nowhere near the music. By the way, this record is one of the very first to have a "Run-In" groove. Columbia abandoned it after a few months, but later on it became a staple feature of ALL records.
