Description

Duffy Power is undoubtedly one of the very best of the British R&B singers. His best work was produced in the 1960's, but he enjoyed no commercial success, therefore, very few of his recordings are available. During the 1960's he interacted at various points with Graham Bond and future members of Cream, Pentangle and The Beatles, as well as John McLaughlin. In 1966/67 he was the head of a short lived group called Duffy's Nucleus, which also included McLaughlin, bassist Danny Thompson and drummer Terry Cox (later to become the rhythm section for Pentangle).  Released in January, 1967 Hound Dog, backed by Mary Open The Door is the ONLY single attributed to Duffy's Nucleus.  The group's version of Hound Dog (made famous by Elvis Presley in the 1950's) is a bluesy offering with some great harmonica playing. Power's own composition Mary Open The Door, is a soulful rock-blues number, on which it is rumoured that Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker also performed.

Both sides of this rare vinyl carry FIRST PRESS Stampers.

DECCA Catalogue Number:  F. 22547

STAMPER Codes:  1 C and 1U

This is a gorgeous vinyl - nice and shiny, with no marks visible to my naked eye - and both sides play flawlessly. Other than a sticker on the A side, the labels are clean (a few spindle marks) and the spindle hole shows little sign of wear. The original Decca swirl sleeve is also in pretty good condition, with no splits, tears or writing.

The sticker on the A side may not meet with universal approval, but this vinyl is in superb condition and I have no problem in grading it as Excellent+. However, should it not meet with expectation I will accept its return (in its present condition) and make full refund of the amount paid.

The record will be despatched in a 7" record mailer, with stiffeners, by First Class Recorded Delivery (UK), or Airmail for overseas.

I accept payment by cheque (UK only), PayPal, or cash if collected in person. I would appreciate payment within 24 hours of the auction closing, but otherwise please contact me to let me know when payment will be made.
