RARE DECCA PRESSING

This was the very first official release, being released on the 22nd of March 1963 (MONO version) and later on the 26th of April 1963 (STEREO version). The Lp reached number one in; Disc Weekly, Melody Maker, New Musical Express and The Record Retailer in the UK. Only to be knocked off by their next album With The Beatles.

Amazingly the songs, which were taken from their first two singles and included a further ten songs, were all recorded in one marathon session at Abbey Road Studios. John wasn't feeling too well and got throught the 3 sessions in the one day by having milk, tea and Zubes lozenges....

These RARE DECCA pressings were only released for a short period as Parlophone were swamped with orders at the end of 1963, so they asked DECC to take on some pressing.

These copies-ESPECIALLY DECCA COPIES OF PLEASE PLEASE ME- are getting increasingly hard to find.

As with ORIGINAL DECCA pressings-there's no letter stamped into the run-off groove.

Vinyl: VG. I have just listened to her all the way through WITHOUT JUMPS OR SKIPS. Nice, heavy vinyl. Still has it's sheen. Quite a few light marks, as well as light needle marks...Far from Mint, but equally far from trashed...She plays all the way through without the skips/jumps, just some background crackle and a couple of pops here and there. A good professional clean and she'll upgrade.

FLAT, HEAVY AND SHINY-ORIGINAL!

Labels: VG. There is only a very small amount of central hole wear as seen in the pictures. Just light spindle marks ONLY visible when angled to the light. Other than that the labels stand out nice and clean, with just light rubbing. It looks like (and can only been seen when looking for it) that there were two small initials to side 2, but were in black pen...so hard to see.

LOVELY PRONOUNCED DEEP DECCA GROOVE

Outer rim text starts with "The Parlophone Co.Ltd" "Recording First Published 1963" stated under the printed matrix number.

Inner: VG. Original "Use Emitex" inner....There are two splits to the seams, one of 10cm and one of 3cm...Certainly not trashed in any sense-She is original and done it's job keeping the record in fab condition!

Cover: VG. It is a genuine Ernest J.Day & Co cover with the Angus McBean in the lower right corner on the front. There has been some wear to the sleeve: The top and bottom seams have a fair bit of wear, but not quite all the way through. The bottom right corner does have a small slpit of 2.5cms.

There is a sticker from "Landau Radio Ltd." This must've been in a radio stations play stock!

Faint biro "Gary's OK" to the back.

The Spine is still very STRONG and clear.

Knocks to each corner.

GREAT, STRONG Garrod & Lofthouse flipbacks.

Some laminate spidering, but not a great deal.

IT IS FAR FROM TRASHED-STILL SOLID.

Grab this increasingly rare copy for your collection-they rarely come up for sale these days-It would certainly make a very good filler.
