An extremely collectable copy of this hugely rare and highly sought after 1971 UK folk classic

Both sides of the vinyl really do gleam and come across as "in new" condition! The lacquered sheen is fully in evidence and a joy to behold and the overall appearance of both sides of the vinyl is near mint. Look closely (and you do have to look very closely, and in good light) and you may detect a few very, very faint wispy hairlines but these are just paper scuffs and barely detectable. No scratching or scuffing at all. Remarkable for a 45 year old piece of classic vinyl!

Similarly the overall quality of the audio is excellent+. No interference at all, no clicks, pops or skips...just a great tone with remarkable clarity. I doubt that the audio quality has diminished at all when compared to that when this record was first bought back in 1971, due partly to the fact that it has obviously been played only a very few times, and due also to it's careful storage and maintenance since then. Superb English traditional folk (with a hint of soft rock)...light a log fire, pour yourself some Old Speckled Hen, then sit back and lose yourself in glorious music and Richard Todd's mesmerically read poetry!

The iconic Linda Glover designed outer gatefold sleeve is in excellent condition, with original multi colouring intact. There is some mild scuffing on the bottom and top edges, however, along with some further mild scuffing on each of the corners.The spine remains rigid with interspersed, very minor scuffing and all writing totally legible.There is the hint of a small, surface only crease towards the front right hand bottom corner (you will need to look closely to detect it), and a small 0.5cm indentation/knock on the opening edge (again, not immediately obvious). The reverse side is excellent, as is the inside of the gatefold where all the lyrics of all the songs, and the poetry read enchantingly by Richard Todd is totally legible. There are some small residue blemishes towards the bottom edges of the inside of the gatefold (see photos) and a few very minor "nicks" on the gatefold interior, but nothing to take away the overall impressive appearance of this long lost classic.

 Each label is near mint. Look closely under a bright light and you may just detect a couple of very, very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each of the labels, but no unwanted writing or other blemishes. Near perfect.

Comes complete with original inner sleeve which suffers from some age discolouration towards the edges, but no splits or tears and remaining fully functional.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in removing the record from the outer sleeve in order to prevent sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
