Dusty Springfield's second British LP was roughly equivalent to the American You Don't Have to Say You Love Me album, which appeared ten months later in the United States and had the title hit and one other song ("Little by Little") added, and three of the U.K. edition's songs stripped off.
The British version also appeared as a gatefold, filled with a series of beautiful photographs and extensive notes.
More to the point, this second album presented a more mature Dusty Springfield, doing songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, Randy Newman and co., although all of the material here -- even "Who Can I Turn To," from the musical The Roar of the Greasepaint -- still has a soulful edge.
Moreover, she scales new heights of passion on Rod Argent's "If It Don't Work Out" and the ethereal "That's How Heartaches Are Made," and seems close to bursting her lungs on Gerry Goffin and Carole King's "I Can't Hear You."
A little more than half of this album -- mostly the up-tempo numbers -- was recorded with her on-stage backing group the Echoes, and they have a nice, lean band sound that was also a departure from the lushly orchestrated, outsized production of her early singles sides.
The whole record comes off as perhaps the greatest Motown album that was never made by Motown, and has a pleasing unity in its British form that the U.S. version lacks.

LABELS: The labels are clean, bright, fresh and unmarked with barely a spindle trace to be seen - no clear marks, just a little light rubbing around the centre hole - this copy has clearly seen little play
VINYL Visual: The vinyl lies perfectly flat on the turntable and both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen with a beautiful lustre. The surfaces are practically unmarked with just some light hairlines but these have no audio consequence - the record sounds sensational
VINYL Audio: Outstanding MONO delivery with a crystal clear, clean, sharp and fresh sound (incredibly vibrant and beautifully produced with a really soulful Motown feel, especially on the more up-tempo numbers). On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always a great pleasure to return to this one, I adore this LP) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps, no loud clicks or pops and barely any surface noise (just a slight touch between some (not all) of the tracks). This is a great copy and the whole LP plays to a very high standard with superb clarity, no discernible groove-wear and no distortion and is strictly graded NEAR MINT for audio - fantastic LP - very, very highly recommended
SLEEVE: The original packaging is also in superb condition. The whole sleeve is remarkably clean and sharp with no real wear to speak of - just a small 'knock' to the top corner and some 'roughening' to the bottom edge from storage (two very, very minor points). The inside is as clean and fresh as the day it was made and the heavy booklet it still firmly attached with pristine pages and the internal fixed pocket which houses the record has no splits to any of the edges. The spine is sharp and displays all text clear and bold overall, a superb example - EXCELLENT++
