Description
Folkways FS-3818, "Dave Van Ronk Sings Ballads, Blues, & A Spiritual" from 1959. This the first cover of DVR's first Folkways LP. The super-heavy vinyl plays at about VG+ with a bit of hiss throughout which lessens on the inner tracks. The jacket has solid seams all around with square corners, no ringwear, no rubwear, no bends, and no writing or stamps; there is considerable age coloring on the back (see scan) some of which could be human-induced. Descriptive notes with lyrics are included and are in excellent shape. Songs are "Duncan and Brady", "Black Mountain Blues", "In the Pines", "My Baby's So Sweet", "Twelve Gates to the City", "Winin' Boy", "If You Leave Me Pretty Mama", "Backwater Blues", "Careless Love", "Betty & Dupree", "K.C. Moan", "Gambler's Blues", "John Henry", and "How Long". DVR was critical of his first LPs but objectively speaking, this is one of his best. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $10.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $20.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. Regrets over the overseas costs, but this is a heavy record. Additional LPs in a single package are $1.00 additional within U.S. and Canada, $2.00 elsewhere. For overseas shipments, registered mail is strongly recommended at $11.75 extra. Many old records are practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window. More than two LPs together may be mailed inside a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
