Description

This is the ONLY test pressing of Deep Purple currently found anywhere on eBay.  As a result, I have absolutely no idea how to accurately price it - so don't be shy about checking in with an offer!  I do know that a sealed commercial copy of this album recently went for $449, and this is presumably far rarer than that.  Hence the price.
This test pressing was clearly used by label/management/artist to evaluate the quality of the pressing and as a result has hairlines, scuffs, typical surface noise, pops and ticks.  However, it plays cleanly through and sounds much better than a visual inspection would indicate.  The white jacket bears the artist's name, the record's catalog number, and the name of a Warner Brothers Records executive.  Also included is the original label copy sheet.  The record is stored in a plastic-lined paper sleeve.
A VERY INTERESTING ASPECT OF THIS DISC is that it bears matrix numbers that are different from any listed at Discogs or elsewhere.  They are W-2766 40701-1B and W-2766 40702-1B.  I am not familiar enough (or, rather, expert enough) to determine if the music, mixes, or EQ settings on this pressing vary in any way from the commercially released album and therefore represents a version that was ultimately  rejected and/or altered before release.  The seemingly unique matrix number would potentially point in that direction.  My research indicates that although the label copy lists January 25, 1974 as the official release date, the album's actual release was apparently postponed until February 15 of that year.  Was a change made, causing the delay??
In any event, Burn is a very highly-regarded album by the group and also represents the first Deep Purple album to feature David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass.
Thanks for looking!
