Description

DR STRANGELY STRANGE - Kip Of The Serenes

Original Australian VINYL LP 1969

Catalogue Number:
  • Calendar SFL-933,498/SR66 9780

Description:

  • Original Australian pressing VINYL LP in front laminated sleeve with flipback flaps on the back. The back cover design is also different to the UK pressing with sleeve notes
  • Released in Australia on the Calendar label (which was Festival Records budget offshoot) as opposed to the Island label in the UK.
  • This album sold poorly upon release and rarely turns up these days, let alone in such great condition as this.
  • REVIEW Ireland's answer to the Incredible String Band, Dr. Strangely Strange engaged in the same type of psychedelic acoustic music with folksy arrangements. With traditional instruments like penny whistle, fiddle, harmonium, and mandolin, Dr. Strangely Strange was more solidly rooted in melody and structure than the group's flaky Scottish counterparts.
  • Produced by British modern folk guru Joe Boyd (Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band), ‘Kip of the Serenes’ is built around simple and repetitious melodies occasionally interrupted by stream-of-consciousness musical and lyrical diversions.
  • This simplistic approach would be abandoned with their 1970 follow-up, Heavy Petting, which saw their first partnership with electric guitarist Gary Moore.
  • Long deleted and hard to find, especially in this condition

Condition:

  • The record is in clean NEAR MINT condition. The vinyl has a high gloss and it plays perfectly

  • The labels are clean with very few spindle trails

  • The sleeve is graded EXCELLENT with just a hint of ring wear on the unlaminated (and mainly white) back, but no defects or damage. All the seams are tight and undamaged
