Duane Peters, professional skateboarder and lead singer of the punk band U.S. Bombs, finds himself in new surroundings here. It’s still a shambles, but the decoration is different. Working with Greg Kuehn (T.S.O.L.), he has crafted something truly unique: punk cabaret music.
His ragged vocals still stumble in all the right ways and you still feel every whiskey-soaked word he spits out of his mouth.There’s a stately drunken pride to these songs, like a railroad bum wearing a diamond ring. It brings to mind the later work of Tom Waits or Bob Dylan: ghostly ‘50s numbers, wobbly sing-alongs, late-night jazzy piano ballads, all wrapped up with great lyrical insights. Pure punk poetry.
