Another from my personal collection! 'EGG' By 'EGG' original 1974 UK 7 track stereo vinyl lp on  'CAROLINE RECORDS' Labels. Their 3rd album to have been released in the UK over 36 years ago, unbeleivable like this! I purchased this from new and originally only ever played this one time to record to tape and one time prior to this listing. The vinyl has always been stored seperated from the cover and sleeve for protection! This is how I have always stored my records! The vinyls playing surface can only be described as very near pristine , pressed from the earliest master -1u -1u matrix endings, makes all the difference for the best possible audio quiality on vinyl.  Looks and sounds barely ever played at all, like the day it was purchased, although please note. it is easy to be critical about these mid seventies pressings, so please allow for the light general static crackle\ticks\pops that was evident during some of the mega almost silent\quiet parts  but I must emphisise that there are no needle scratches on this vinyl at all, and the audio is clear and very vibrant! The original unlaminated , E.Day cover is awesome, Almost as good as the day that it was purchased,  so hard to find these 36 year old covers in this superbe condition!  These original 1st UK pressings are impossible to find in this condition please do not underestemate the rarety like this!

Egg were an English progressive rock band formed in January 1969. The founding members of the group were Dave Stewart who played organ (not to be confused with guitarist David A. Stewart of Eurythmics), Mont Campbell on bass and vocals and drummer Clive Brooks. The band emerged from an earlier quartet formed whilst at City of London School called Uriel with guitarist Steve Hillage. After Hillage left the band in August 1968, the other three continued as a trio. Having signed a deal with the Middle Earth club's management branch, they were advised to change their name to Egg, allegedly because Uriel "sounded too much like 'urinal'". In mid 1969 the band signed a deal with Decca's 'progressive' sublabel Deram and released their debut album in March 1970 on their short-lived Nova series!!.

Released in 1974, Dave Stewart  wrote::
(from an article originally published in Ptolemaic Terrascope, 1990). 

"Future events were to partly compensate for the lack of interest that led to the band's demise, as in 1974 we got the opportunity to reform the band for the album The Civil Surface. This effectively mopped up the unrecorded material from the post-Polite Force era, though we had to pad it out a little with some wind quartets Mont had written - not really Egg Material! Although the mix on Civil Service is a bit naff (we couldn't persuade Clive that the drums were loud enough) I'm really glad we recorded 'Enneagram', one of my favourite Egg pieces. We used to steam through that at gigs - our opening number - and peoples' faces would drop."

 Although the music of Egg does have occasional singing, it is mostly instrumental and as such relies on tight ensemble playing and interesting thematic and melodic material with extended chordal harmonies and irregular time signatures!

The Vinyl

On initial inspection of the playing surface This looks Awesome! looks unplayed in my opinion!  Still retaining its original deep glossy sheen from new!! LOOK SUPERBE! It is hard to even see a blemish! Any that could possibly be seen would be whispy sleeve removal marks, and very few slight minute dots of vinyl pressing imperfections !!!

The Audio Quality

 I have carefuly played this through track for track as usual prior to listing and the audio is very clear and vibrant  certainly (no) jumps or skips CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT ON ALL FREQUENCIES!   it has only ever been played by me two times only from new,,  certainly not overplayed!! Unbeleivable for an original, rarest 1st pressing that is 36 years old!!!Please note! It is important for me ton point out that it is easy to be critical about these mid seventies pressings! Please allow for some static ticks\crackle and pops that I heard evident during some of the mega quiet and almost silent places on this vinyl, this is and how it was when purchased from new! Also I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so a good constant clean before each play would reduce this and enhance the audio!  The actual audio is clear and vibrant with, of course (no) signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all!!! 

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality.   Please allow for  static\ticks\crackle and some pops only heard during almost silent places on this vinyl, importantly there are no needle marks or scratches that cause any loud clicks skips or jumps This has only been played by me two times from new and visualy reflects this in my opinion! ! Please remember that this is an original 36 year old vinyl that has been played and would have originally been played on a 36 year old system and would benefit from a clean before each play!!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 35 years! From my experiance this vinyl would benefit from a constant clean before each play! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over a period of laying dormant, produces static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

The labels!

These are the original 1st issue 'Three virgins' Caroline records labels!   (correct for this earliest pressing) They are SUPERBE almost as new condition!!   It is hard for me to any spider marks at all!, even   when  angled to the light THIS HAS ONLY BEEN PLAYED BY ME  TWO EVER!! (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round and very tight around the spindle hiole! (SEE PHOTOS) Amaizing Condition! 

The Record sleeve

This is the original plain white paper sleeve  without splits or tares just light creasing\staining with age! Original in superbe condition!

The cover

This is the original 1st issue unlaminated front EJ day cover!  No splits or tares no nasty names written no real ware to mention indeed! Strong and straight as it should be, very hard to ever keep or find in this condition! This must grade at least excellent plus to near prefect in my opinion!!
