Recorded in a mere three days in the winter of 1956 in Hollywood, CA, Ella Fitzgerald Sings The Cole Porter Songbook is both the debut release of the legendary Verve record label, and the first (and perhaps best) of Fitzgerald’s Songbook series. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000, and included in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, the album is an undeniably essential piece of American music.
