Elton John is the second album by English singer-songwriter Elton John, released in April 1970.

However, because it was his first album released in America, many people there assumed it was his first album, as Empty Sky was not released in the US until 1975.

Elton John includes his breakthrough hit, "Your Song", and helped to establish his career during what was considered the "singer-songwriter" era of popular music.

In the US, it was certified gold in February 1971 by the RIAA. In the same year, it was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

1st issues feature translucent vinyl have a redish tint (See photo above)

All songs written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

Side one
"Your Song" – 4:02
"I Need You to Turn To" – 2:35
"Take Me to the Pilot" – 3:47
"No Shoe Strings on Louise" – 3:31
"First Episode at Hienton" – 4:48

Side two
"Sixty Years On" – 4:35
"Border Song" – 3:22
"The Greatest Discovery" – 4:12
"The Cage" – 3:28
"The King Must Die" – 5:23

The Matrix
side 1. "DJLPS 406-A4" (Hand Etched only 1st UK press)
side 2. "
DJLPS 406-B1 " (Hand Etched only 1st UK press)

The Vinyl
This is the 1st issue translucent vinyl (Only 1st UK press) On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks like a new vinyl in my opinion. Amazingly, I struggle see no more than one spider mark only on the labels! This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked these) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new. Only In strong light could possibly any or very (very) few surface marks be seen caused by the vinyl been slid in and out of its sleeve. Note: (no) deep needle scratches that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note! Please allow for the odd isolated static/tick/crackle or type pop perhapes heard in run ins or quieter place only.  This looks and plays like a new vinyl in my opinion, there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. The audio is graded at very Near as Mint in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 46 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static pop/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 46 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played in my personal opinion, at least no more than a handful of times in my opinion and the audio quality superbe on all frequencies and the fact there are no more than one spider mark each side on the labels that I can see!

The labels
This features the "DJM" labels. (only UK press) These are superbe just barely one spider mark only can be seen on each side, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl has hardly been played at all, at least barely a handful of times in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original white sleeve. The edges are becoming fragile with age and very slightly beginning to wear. Slight creasings/staining/fading with age. The vinyl is now always stored seperately from the sleeve.

The cover

The original 1st issue EJ.Day & Co Textured, un-laminated  cover is superbe! Being primarily black in color and very fragile is rarely seen in decent condition. There are (no) edge splits or tears.  Note! some fading/rubbing to mention at the front. The spine is generally square with minor storage wear only and the writing can clearly be seen! Note!  A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  No real nasty creases, crease lines/one crease/bumping on the front bottom right corner edge only and left hand bottom corner, minor crease lines at the spine,  not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Any other imperfections or indents are very minor and are not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion. The rear is near and inside is superb in my opinion. Must be at least Excellent in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 46 years!
