Description
ELVIS PRESLEY – “ELVIS” (LPM-1382), A SIMPLY STUNNING COPY OF THE RARE “OLD SHEP” ALTERNATE TAKE PRESSING WITH 17S/17S MATRIX NUMBERS IN THE DEAD WAX TRAIL-OFF! AS AN ADDED BONUS, WE HAVE THE RAREST COVER VARIETY, SHOWING THE SONG TITLES ON THE BACK SHIFTED FAR TO THE LEFT! ALL VG++ (EXC)!!!
RECORD: VG++ (EXC) with full original gloss! There are just some extremely light surface scuffs that cannot be felt with the fingertip. Being that this is an original 1956-57 vintage vinyl LP, it does not play perfectly. The vocals and instrumentation are clear and strong, but there is that old 1950's surface noise in areas, albeit light and unoffensive to the listener. “Old Shep” was test-played to confirm that it is, indeed, the alternate take as well as to test for clarity, being that it is one of the softest tracks on the album. The track played great! There will be NO skips or repeats on this Indianapolis pressing! This record, with matrix numbers 17S/17S, is a true prize for the serious Elvis Presley collector. The labels are simply beautiful, with just a few very light spindle marks as well as some minor fingerprinting. This is Elvis' second album, released in November of 1956 and it includes the hit, “Love Me”, which produced a million-selling 45 E.P.
COVER: VG++ (EXC) with no seam splits, tape, writing or staple holes! This is the absolute rarest variety of this cover. It is more rare than any of the highly-touted “Ad Back” cover variations. This is (obviously) an all-text back, but with the song titles shifted far to the left side of the upper portion of the cover. The majority of the all-text covers show the song titles shifted over to the right-hand side. The white areas of this cover are all very white and clean. Ring wear is nearly non-existent; just very light and seen mainly on the back side. Odd as it may seem, there is evidence of tape having been placed on the inside of the cover, in about six areas, descending down in short strips on just one side of the inner cover. This tape has long since fallen off due to age. The spine as well as the upper and lower edges are all solid and smooth. A very small amount of wear is seen on a few of the letters in the text along the spine. Some minor wear is noticed at the open end corners. This is a very clean, solid and very original 62-year-old cover and RARE this nice! please see all 8 photos.
INNER SLEEVE: The original “RCA Victor” inner sleeve is included.GOOD LUCK!
