Amazing: what we have here technically DOES NOT EXIST and is not supposed to exist. To our best knowledge, the existence of this PROMO-ONLY U.S. MONO version of this classic Eric Clapton 1974 hit single has never been documented or substantiated, and none of the price books and guides currently in print make any reference to its history or background. The historical importance of this item cannot be overestimated: this is an equivalent of discovering a long-lost animal- or plant species !!!

Bandleader/producer/songwriter Johnny Otis had worked in just about every phase of the music business as a musician, DJ, record label owner, and talent scout. His "Rock 'n' Roll Calvacade of Stars" helped launch the careers of Jackie Wilson, Hank Ballard, Esther Phillips, and Etta James. Having had several Top Ten R&B hits (including three number ones), Otis signed with Capitol Records in the mid-'50s. The label wanted him to "tone down" the blues and jazz elements of his music in order to make it more palatable to white audiences. His chugging single "Willie and the Hand Jive" went to number three R&B and number nine pop in summer 1958. Otis, who plays piano, drums, and vibraphone, must have passed along his multi-talented genes to his son Shuggie Otis

(a)          WE GRADE THE RECORD AS  NEAR MINT. Some MICROSCOPIC  abrasions  are (barely) visible, but are for all practical purposes inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. Minor scuff noted on the stereo side of the record.

(b)          Mono/Stereo White Promo Label version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released stereo version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 400:1.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       SLEEVE : This TEST pressing comes in a plain, poly-lined, generic 45 single sleeve; the test pressing never had any picture or custom sleeve.
