• This really is an excellent album, among the very best pop/psych records recorded this side of the Atlantic. I wrestled with rating this 5 stars, but the individual track gradings just didn't add up. However, this is one of those LP's where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. It just keeps comin' at ya, with one great song after another, in a way few records of it's ilk are able to. It's fairly easy to tell they were clearly a garage band, and the zealous production work on the album is not able to completely hide this fact. The main forte of this release is it's fabulous song writing. Their sound is bolstered by soaring vocal harmonies, powerful organ, and psych effects, but hampered by noticeably weak guitar. On tracks where a strong guitar break would clearly put it over the top, guitarist Stevens lacks the talent to deliver. Fortunately for the band, though, he more than made up for it with his song writing ability, participating with other members on, or solely writing, each of the ten cuts offered. Looking at this as a garage album, most fans would agree, it's really quite strong.

3.09 overall rating seems way too low for this record. I'm a bit surprised that it's not held in a bit higher esteem. That's certainly not the case for me. Perhaps it's a bit of backlash by some folks expecting a heavy psych album and not getting it. Maybe some disatisfaction from folks expecting straight ahead 60's pop or it's that listeners can't get past the cheesy, Paul Revere and The Raiders evoking, album sleeve enough to realize that the music is really pretty good. About the music, it's a really solid 60's psych pop (almost power pop) album. 

Every track is almost instantly accessable. Every track seems almost instantly memorable which indicates the strong songwriting chops on display here. The choruses are big and anthemic. The kind that folks pump their fists to or point their fingers and nod knowingly at their mates while listening. The only negative really is that the lead guitar player isn't quiet strong or imaginative enought to do the songs the justice they really deserve. In more talented hands this record becomes perhaps a five star album. It's just pop music and there's nothing of any depth or substance here but it's a fun and memorable listen, which is what good pop music should be. Favorites among an album full of them are "I'm Tellin' You", "Straighten Up and Fly Right", "We Have Already Died", "Just Pretend You're Sherry" and "The Time Being". Seriously, don't let that 3.09 rating deter you. If good, solid 60's pop (and all that goes with it) is your cup of tea then this will hit the spot. 

This is a really great album, if you ever get the chance to get this, do it. It's actually heaps psychedelic, and a lot of organ use wich is great. The best songs are "Straighten Up And Fly Right", "Fantasy", "We Have Already Died" and "The Time Being".

A surprise for me. One day (about 13 years ago) I was browsing the local used record store and saw this album. I was looking for lesser known rock, pop or prog groups and happen to see this. I am a fan of 1960's/70's organ in rock so when I noticed they had a keyboardist, I decided to pick this up for a couple bucks. It is not a fantastic album but to my amazement it was actually pretty good. In a fun way if not so much because they were fantastic musicians. Their sound is similar to the more poppy and fun rock music of the Kinks, Beatles, Zombies or The Who, though not quite the musicians of those 4 groups (though the drummer lays some funky beats). Most of the songs are crafted pretty well and are enjoyable to listen to. If you like poppy late 60's music with flashes of hard rock and like to collect rare LP's, try to find this one.

The Disc (Vinyl) and the Album Cover are graded separately.

DISC (VINYL) GRADES SS (STILL SEALED) Sealed at factory and never opened. Disc is assumed to be undamaged and mint, but this cannot be proven until the album is actually opened and the disc examined. M (MINT) Perfection, no flaws, defects, marks or otherwise indications of being handled or played. Any scuffs, hairline scratches or other marks disqualify discs from this category. I do not use this grade, as even the act of inserting the disc or removing it from the paper sleeve may cause scuff marks on the vinyl. NM or M-  (NEAR MINT or MINT MINUS) This is highest grade that I will assign to opened, handled records. The vinyl is virtually flawless, bright and shiny. A very minor, barely visible scuff or two may be permitted, but no scratches. The disc should play with no audible noise. The label is bright, clean and unmarked. EX or VG++ (EXCELLENT or VERY GOOD ++) Disc plays near perfectly, but may have minor paper scuffs that do not interfere with the sound quality. There can possibly be a hairline scratch or two but nothing that is obvious or affects play. Vinyl is bright and shiny; label is clean and unmarked. VG+ (VERY GOOD PLUS) Some visible surface wear, very minor scratches and scuffs, but minimal impact on the sound quality. Vinyl will still have good luster; labels may have minor imperfections (small labels or initials, etc.) but otherwise clean. VG (VERY GOOD) Vinyl has noticeable scratches or scuffs that cause minor surface noise, but do not overpower the music. There are no skips. Vinyl may appear somewhat dull and grayish. Labels may have small tears, tape marks, larger writing, etc. but still easily legible. G (GOOD) Well-played, dull, grayish vinyl with deeper scratches and wear causing distracting surface noise (hisses, pops, cracks and other nasties). The record will still play through without any skips. Labels may be significantly defaced or damaged. F (FAIR) P (POOR) Unless the record is particularly rare, I would not try to sell a record in this condition. There will be major noise, surface damage, deep scratches, and skips. Attempting to listen to these discs will be painful. These discs are basically trash unless a collector desires one to fill a space in a collection until a better one comes along.

ALBUM COVER GRADES SS (STILL SEALED) Album is still in the factory-applied shrink-wrapping. M (MINT) Absolutely perfect; no corner dings, marks, tears, dents, impressions from the disc, or other flaws. Cover should appear as if a record has never been inside. NM or M- (NEAR MINT or MINT MINUS) Very minor signs of wear or cover impressions. Artwork is as close to perfection as possible. EX or VG++ (EXCELLENT or VERY GOOD ++) Minor disc impression or slight corner creases, no wrinkles, puckers, seam splits or writing on the cover. Artwork is clean and unworn and there is no ink wear. VG+ (VERY GOOD PLUS) Cover is clean but may have minor writing or marks and may show slight wear. There may be just the start of ring wear and a slight discoloration or staining, minor seam wear, but no splits or tears. Corners may have small creases or fraying. VG (VERY GOOD) Cover is worn and used. Seams may be starting to split or may have been unobtrusively repaired with clear tape. There is moderate ringwear, but the artwork is still attractive. There may be yellowing or discoloration and there may be larger writing, labels, or marks. Corners may have damage or creases. G (GOOD) Several (but not all of the following flaws will apply: Seam splits, large marker writing, major seam splits, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears, cuts, gouges, masking or duct tape seam repairs, or other flaws and damage. Again, probably only useful to fill a collection niche until something better can be found. F (FAIR) P (POOR) Trash, useable only to keep the record off the floor.
