Classical music collectors always have Furtwangler performances in their vinyl and CD collections - indeed, many of his interpretations are considered the ultimate reference for a particular piece of music.  A Furtwangler collector usually starts off buying reissues of Furt's many fine mono performances and the collector is astounded by both the interpretation and in most cases, the amazing sound on the medium. Soon the neophyte collector graduates to more expensive original pressings on record labels like: EMI, Electrola, DGG, Melodiya and is floored to find that the sound again, is nothing short of audio nirvana.  Unfortunately many LP collectors and audiophiles are well aware of the best possible pressings and with that, inevitably, these pressings always come with high price tags - up for auction, we have just such an example!  Good luck with your bids.

The ebay auction item is for a very rare GERMAN ORIGINAL (first pressing) LP, with a RED Electrola label with the "Half Dog" with GOLD lettering.

The LP is from the extremely rare ELECTROLA - His Master's Voice series of 12" LPs (now LONG out of print), catalog # WALP 527. The record vintage is from the early 1960's (late 1950's).

CONDITION Details:

The LP gatefold jacket is in Excellent condition. The jacket is is completely intact - with NO seam splits. The jacket does show some shelf wear - rounding of corners and weakened seams, etc.. - very typical of these fragile German gatefolds. The colours on the front of the jacket are clean and vivid (see picture below for more details).

The LP is in Excellent+ condition. The vinyl has some spider marks caused from sliding the record in and out of the sleeve - anyone who has owned these early gatefold LPs, knows that the LP is difficult to slide into the jacket since it has to be done from the inside, middle seam. Very awkward! The marks may sound on some audio systems. We spot play graded the LP on our audio system and found it to be in excellent condition, with some minor noise which does not detract from the overall performance - a gorgeous slab of collectors grade vinyl (very heavy). Please understand that this is a 40+ year old record - as such, one cannot expect the record to sound like a brand new, audiophile pressing! Some noise is inevitable - for best results, always properly clean your LPs before playing them. The record has a RED record label with the "Half Dog" signature at the top, centre of the label - the 33 1/3 is in a triangle, with GOLD lettering. The LP is clearly indicated as being issued/pressed in GERMANY, vintage early 1960's or late 1950's.

The LP is an audiophile quality pressing (any collector of fine MFSL, half speeds, direct to discs, Japanese/UK pressings etc., can attest to the difference a quality pressing can make to an audio system).
