Further Details
Picture sleeves were created and released in April 1964 for a few of the Gold Standard Series reissues of Elvis singles. I would call this sleeve as VG++ with some very slight ring wear. There are no seam splits, staples, or wrinkles and it presents extremely well.

The record is excellent (NM), and has the original Dog on Top Gold Standard Series label.

Items of Note
Heartbreak Hotel was co-written by Mae Axton. Her son, Hoyt Axton also wrote a song that Elvis recorded – “Never Been to Spain”. In addition to song writing and singing, Hoyt Axton is also famous for his role as the father in the 1984 movie Gremlins.

Elvis met the Jordanaires before becoming famous. Gordon Stoker has shared that Elvis told the group that he was going to ask them to sing with him if he ever got a recording contract with a big label. Not long afterwards Elvis signed with RCA and his first recording session was scheduled for January 1956 with Chet Atkins as the producer. As promised, Elvis asked for the Jordanaires to be part of the session. Chet Atkins contacted Gordon Stoker and asked him to be part of the session, but instead of also including the rest of the Jordanaires, he booked another newly signed group to RCA – the Speer Family. When Stoker asked Atkins about this, Atkins told him that Elvis was a new kid that probably wouldn’t be around very long anyway. So it is the Speer family that can be heard singing the background vocals on “I Was the One” and not, as one might assume, the Jordanaires.

I first became an Elvis fan in the fall of 1976 and received my first Elvis record for Christmas that year (from my uncle – it was a tan label “Live at Madison Square Garden” because my uncle liked the song “Never Been to Spain”). I am selling some of the records from my collection in hopes that they may bring as much joy to other Elvis fans and collectors as they have to me.
