Description
Emil Gilels
Leopold Ludwig/ The Philharmonia Orchestra
Beethoven - "Emperor" Concerto
(Columbia SAX 2252 UK LP 1958)
This is a UK original Stereo LP pressing. It has a fully laminated flipback sleeve which has a circular gold "Stereophonic" sticker on the front. The rear flipbacks have a rounded die-cut area at the centre. The text on the rear sleeve is printed in red. It has its original tracing-paper lined company "Emitex" inner sleeve.
The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has turquoise blue & silver Columbia labels. These are grooved also. It has 1st press YAX 8-13 and YAX 9-10 matrix stampers. This is a genuine UK 1st pressing with a fully laminated sleeve, red text on the rear & grooved labels. These are not that common.
Sleeve: Unfortunately there is a 6 cm tear, on the front sleeve, at the bottom sleeve opening. There is a 2.5 cm tear near the middle of the front sleeve opening. The majority of the laminate has peeled away from the front sleeve also. There is some more moderate rubbing wear to the top edge. There is some light to mild ringwear too. Good condition. These early UK Columbia sleeves are very prone to wear.
Vinyl: There are some light or very mild sleeve rubs which can be seen under a strong light. The inner sleeve has left some light to very mild marks on one side only. These do not affect playback. VG++ condition. The labels are in excellent+ condition & show minimal spindle wear only. The company inner sleeve is in VG+ condition. There is some light to mild ringwear & creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have fully play tested this LP. It plays VG+ to Near Excellent overall & even Excellent in some places. There is some light, mild or very mild crackle in some quieter places. There are a couple of light to mild clicks midway through Side 1 in two separate places.
