Emil Richards And The Microtonal Blues Band: Spirit Of 1976. Impulse AS-9182
Great 1970 lp of adventurous, percussion-heavy, Indian-influenced jazz-psych that incorporates microtonal scales and unusual time signatures. The lineup consists of tuned percussion master and Harry Partch associate Emil Richards (vibes, electric vibes, octave marimba, percussion), Dave Mackay (piano and percussion), Ray Neapolitan (bass and fender bass), Joe Porcaro (drums), and Mark Stevens (percussion). Among Richards' percussion battery are plastic tubes, circular saw blades, stainless steel bowls, and tuned saki bottles. This recording was made live at Donte's, North Hollywood, in 1969. Tracks are: Spirit Of 1976; Peek-A-Boo; All Blue; One Tooth Grin; Like Me; 10 To 5; Jordu.
Richards was a member of the Harry Partch Ensemble, the George Shearing Quintet, and Stan Kenton's Neophonic Orchestra, and has worked in classical and jazz settings with Charles Mingus, Jimmy Witherspoon, Shorty Rogers, Don Ellis, Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin, and many others as a studio musician. This lp should be of interest to fans of microtonal composers such as John Eaton, Ivan Wyschnegradsky, La Monte Young, Easley Blackwood, Glenn Branca, Terry Riley, Charles Ives, Alois Haba, Julian Carrillo, Tony Conrad, etc.

Payment - I prefer Paypal (which allows for fastest possible shipment) and also accept cash, money order (from US financial institutions only, including BidPay, US Postal, certified US bank check, etc., international bidders please take note!), and Western Union money transfer. I will send an invoice email to all winners shortly after my auctions close, and another email after payment has been received to confirm item shipment.
Packing - I pack professionally and adequately using new record mailers exclusively from Cameron Packaging (which I have determined are the best and most protective). For used lps, I remove the lp and inserts from the jacket, cover it in a layer of bubble wrap, and then reinforce it with a cardboard insert. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
