TODAY, I'M SELLING SOME OF MY CHERISHED EMITT RHODES COLLECTION! THE VINYL HAS BEEN ON MY SHELF FOR OVER 45 YEARS! Read The Details Below... Emitt was one of my favorite artists back in 1970s. And, because he wasn't that well-known, his albums soon went to the cut out bins. I bought at least a dozen copies of Emitt Rhodes, Mirror and Farewell To Paradise back in the day, mostly to give to friends, because they were so cheap as cut-outs. What's NOT For Sale... I scanned a letter (just so you can read) from Emitt Rhodes wife, Kathy, dated January 1st, 1977. I had written Emitt to ask him why he disappeared and hadn't released any records since 1973's Farewell To Paradise. I was touched she took the time to respond. FarewellTo Paradise (12" LP, 1973) ABC/Dunhill DSX 50122 (Kendun Press) GORGEOUS Virtually Ring-Free & Shelf Wear-Free Cut-Out
This is Emitt's last Dunhill album of the 70s, 1973's Farewell To Paradise. FANTASTIC condition, with sharp, crisp edges, virtually no ring wear and no shelf wear (see pics). This includes the ORIGINAL Dunhill inner sleeve and a MINT PERFECT LYRIC SHEET (except for the cut out hole). There's some minor crimping on the inside artwork, mid-to-upper left panel, but that's a manufacturing thing, not because of abuse or neglect (as the gorgeous front cover should illustrate). Unfortunately, since I haven't had a turntable in over 20 years, I can't vouch for the vinyl, though I CAN say that it looks GREAT. And, more importantly, this wasn't my original overplayed copy from 1973. This was a replacement copy I got in the cut-out bins, so it wasn't worn out like my originals were. NOTE: There's cut out hole punch in the bottom right corner (bottom left on back).
Everyone knows that Emitt recorded his albums by himself, guitars, drums, bass, piano, harmonies... everything. For Farewell, he began to incorporate even more instruments, like saxophone and violin. LONG before this practice was fashionable. In fact, Emitt was recording his debut album at the SAME TIME that Paul McCartney was recording HIS solo debut LP. One of the reasons it's so good is who else is involved besides Emitt... The album was mixed at famed Sound City Studios by legendary great Keith Olsen. The All Music Guide states that FTP is "a very strong album, and further cements his reputation as one of the great (albeit long-lost) artists of the period."

ALL MUSIC GUIDE REVIEW This, essentially Emitt Rhodes' third and final album, is once again a one-man-band affair. It does differ, however, from his earlier efforts. The record has a much more wistful, almost Harry Nilsson-like feeling, and this permeates most of the cuts. This album also finds Rhodes experimenting with other instruments, such as violin on "Warm Self Sacrafice," one of the album's standouts. Although not as buoyant as his earlier efforts, Farewell to Paradise is still a very strong album, and further cements his reputation as one of the great (albeit long-lost) artists of the period.
