Description

On offer here is a very rare LP (especially in this condition!!!!) by Fairport Convention called 'What We Did On Our Holidays' and is an ORIGINAL 1968 UK 1st TEST PRESSING on the ULTRA RARE Island TEST PRESS 'Textured' white label!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND LIKE THIS!!!!  THIS IS AN ULTRA RARE 'WHITE LABEL' ISLAND TEST PRESSING - AND WOULD HAVE ONLY EVER HAVE BEEN PRESSED IN ABSOLUTELY TINY AMOUNTS (NO MORE THAN 10-20) BEFORE THE 1ST PRESSING RUN BEGAN!!!!  NATURALLY AS THIS IS THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING EVER (EVEN BEFORE THE 1ST PRESSING RUN BEGAN!) - THIS LP HAS ALL THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS CHARACTERISTICS!!!!  I WILL EXPLAIN THESE IN GREAT DETAIL BELOW:

FIRSTLY THE COVER IS THE 'EARLIEST POSSIBLE' 1ST PRESS COVER - WITH A LAMINATED FRONT AND UNLAMINATED BACK!!!!  NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE UNLAMINATED COVER BACK IS SHINY AND HAS NO MANUFACTURING CREDIT (SIMPLY STATING 'MADE IN ENGLAND')!!!!  THIS ONLY EVER HAPPENED ON A TINY HANDFUL OF THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS COVERS EVER!!!!  ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER RELEASE - THE UNLAMINATED BACK WAS CHANGED TO A 'MATT' FINISH - AND LATER STILL IN 1970 THE COVER BECAME FULLY LAMINATED.  ALSO A COVER MANUFACTURING CREDIT WAS ADDED TO THE LATER COVERS - WHICH ALL 100% GENIUNE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSINGS SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE!!!!  BUT THERE IS ANOTHER CRUCIAL DIFFERENCE IN THE REAR COVER DESIGN THAT WAS ONLY EVER PRINTED ON THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS COVERS EVER!!!!  IF YOU LOOK AT THE BACK COVER PICTURES YOU CAN CLEAR SEE THE 'ISLAND' LOGO ON THE COVER BACK IS RIGHT AGAINST THE OPENING EDGE AND THERE IS RADICAL DIFFERENCES TO THE TEXT ON THE BOTTOM REVERSE OF THE COVER - WITH A VERY LARGE GAP BETWEEN THE 'SIDE ONE' LISTING ON THE BOTTOM LEFT & THE 'SIDE TWO' LISTING TOWARDS THE MIDDLE!!!!  ON ALL LATER COVERS THE 'ISLAND LOGO' WAS MOVED MUCH FURTHER IN, AND THE TEXT ON THE BACK OF THE COVER WAS CORRECTLY SPACED TO LEAVE EXACT EVEN GAPS!!!!  AND THIS ULTRA RARE BACK COVER DESIGN ONLY EVER HAPPENED ON THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS COVERS EVER!!!!  NOT ONLY THAT BUT THE MATRIXES (SEE PICTURE) ARE THE 'EARLIEST POSSIBLE' 1ST PRESS MATRIXES EVER - BEING ILPS+9092+A & ILPS+9092+B - WITH NO NUMBERS AFTER THE LAST LETTER!!!!  AGAIN THIS WAS CHANGED IMMEDIATELY AFTER RELEASE TO A/B2 MATRIX ENDINGS!!!!   AND THESE ULTRA RARE 'EARLIEST POSSIBLE' 1ST PRESS A/B MATRIXES MAKE A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE TO THE RECORD!!!!  ON SIDE 2 (WITH THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS 'B' MATRIX ENDING) ON THIS ULTRA RARE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSING THERE ARE 5 GAPS AND SIX SEPARATE TRACKS!!!!  AND THERE IS ALSO A VERY LARGE 'GAP' AROUND THE LABELS WITH LARGE RUN OFF GROOVES!!!!  HOWEVER ON ALL LATER PRESSINGS WITH A 'B2' MATRIX ENDING, THE GROOVES WERE RADICALLY CHANGED - WITH ONLY 4 GAPS AND ONLY FIVE SEPARATE TRACKS!!!!  QUITE WHY THIS WAS CHANGED IS HARD TO SAY.  PERHAPS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MIX?  OR THE SOUND WASNT QUITE CORRECT?  IT IS DIFFICULT TO KNOW FOR SURE.  BUT WHAT IS CERTAIN IS THAT FINDING AN ULTRA RARE 'EARLIEST' TEST 1ST PRESSING WITH 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS MATRIXES & DIFFERENT GROOVE SPACINGS IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

NOT ONLY THAT BUT THIS LP IS IN GREAT CONDITION!!!!  THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1968 UK TEST PRESSING ON THE ULTRA RARE TEST PRESS 'WHITE' ISLAND LABELS, 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS A/B MATRIX ENDINGS, 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS INNER SLEEVE, AND 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESS LAMINATED COVER!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND LIKE THIS - SO DONT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!!!!  This is the ORIGINAL UK 1st TEST pressing from 1968 and is in GREAT condition!!!! The record is pressed on thick quality vinyl. The Cat. No is ILPS 9092 on the ORIGINAL 1st TEST Press Island label (see picture) and is a 1968 Stereo pressing (there were NO Monos)!!!!

The record labels are in STUNNING condition (see pictures) with NO wear, NO writing, and a few light spindle marks!!!!  The vinyl is in GREAT condition!!!!  Most of these 60s LPs had been to a lot of wild parties and are usually found totally worn out, and almost unplayable.  This one is NOT and has NO scratches, only 3 or 4 light hairlines, only 2 or 3 light scufflines, and only a few of the lightest paper scuffs only visible under light!!!!  THE RECORD STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL 'JUST PRESSED' LOOK!!!! It is great to find that the playing of the record is as STUNNING as the visual!!!!  It plays with only a VERY few light clicks/pops, NO sticking, NO jumps, and only some VERY slight crackle/background sound in places.  There is NO distortion and NO groovewear either!!!!  The record must STRICTLY grade Very Good(Minus) if not Very Good (PROPERLY graded, NOT trashed)!!!!  Believe me this record is NOT overgraded in ANY way!!!!  I use STRICT RC grading standards - it is not in my interest not to!!!! Brillant!!!!  The record also comes in its ORIGINAL 1st Press inner sleeve!!!!  The 1st Press Laminated Cover is in BRILLIANT condition!!!! It has NO edge wear, NO spinal wear, only slight corner wear (NOT through the colour), VERY shiny laminate, only a few VERY light creases (cover is VERY flat looking), and NO writing!!!!  The opening edge is beautifully straight with NO feathering!!!! Even the unlaminated back is in BRILLIANT condition with NO writing, NO grubbyness, barely ANY rubbing AT ALL (apart from a VERY slight amount at the VERY top of the cover), NO ringwear, and NO yellowing!!!!  The cover must grade Very Good++ if not better!!!!  THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND LIKE THIS - SO  DONT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!!!!

HAVE A LOOK AT MY PICTURES - I DO MY BEST TO SHOW THE RECORD FROM ALL ANGLES AND MAKE THE PICTURES AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE - THERE IS NOTHING TO HIDE!!!! It really is a GREAT looking LP and it is truly rare to find any copies of this MEGA RARE LP!!!!
