Description
Filarmónica Fraude is a Portuguese band, one of the first to introduce and give relevance in Portugal to the musical style that was beginning to emerge in Europe and the United States of America called progressive rock. In 1969 he released an album and two EPs.
It may seem incredible, but it was necessary to wait for the last months of 1969 for the pop rock discography in Portuguese lands to reach the album format. Yes, there had been collections from the João Paulo Academic Group a few years earlier, but it was only with Pop Five Music Incorporated and the Philharmonic Fraud that the studio album actually arrived at the time when it was lived, in the middle of the African War.
The Philharmonic Fraud had arisen shortly before, in 1968, and that summer, the journalist and writer Fernando Assis Pacheco, who dedicated a huge article to them in the Diário de Lisboa, caught the attention of them. After an editorial dispute between Valentim de Carvalho and Philips, the latter wins, and it is there that the group publishes its entire work.
António Avelar de Pinho, later one of the brains of Banda do Casaco, and António Luís Linhares de Sousa, today conductor and essayist, shared the composition: the acid lyrics fit the first and the music inspired by the traditions but almost always subverting them was the second field. On the other hand, and after the pioneering steps of Quartet 1111, we also saw here the best of the marriages between these references and the boldness of pop rock then, sometimes close to what was conventionally called folk rock.
Songs like “Pets” or the arrangement for “O Menino” were in everyone's ears and are still remembered today, with emphasis on the Valentine's Wing versions of the first and Quinta do Bill versions of the second. Along with themes like “Flor de Laranjeira” or “O Milhões”, they were part of the two EPs of the group, which would soon be followed by the classic album “Epopeia”, where we find our music today.
With the cover of a then very young artist Lídia Martinez, and which sparked controversy for the signature “Lídia 69”, the LP featured production by João Martins and Luiz Villas-Boas, combined with arrangements by Jorge Machado. The band was then formed by João José Brito, António Antunes da Silva, José João Parracho and Júlio Patrocínio, in addition to the two composers and also guests such as Carlos Barata, Zé da Cadela or Luís Moutinho. The creativity was so great that it seemed ready to explode and the year 1970, despite announcements of new works, unfortunately brought the end of the group.

FILARMONICA FRAUDE- Epopeia- Original PHILLIPS 841 407 1E from 1970. The RAREST PORTUGUESE LP ever and that said, one of the best. In the style of Quarteto 1111 this is fantastic transcending mellow psychedelic / Flower-power. Very few copies turned up so far. The cover grades EXC,is a plane brown sleeve. Vinyl is a strong GOOD++ . Overall this is a very enjoyable copy and a true rarity you won’t see on any dealers list ever! As featured in the last Pokora volume 5001 with 5 stars (page 88). This is of course the VERY FIRST pressing. A excelent copy! NO RESERVE..
