I recently had the good fortune to buy a big collection of both 60's AND 80's Garage, Punk & Psychedelic LPs and 7"s from a trusted collector who bought them all at the time...and who'd kept them so well...anything he bought new was still MINT or M- (true, there were also a few old original 60's items in whatever condition he found them in)...but the bottom line is, he had amazingly good taste, and the gems he had were carefully handpicked for excellence.
Anyway, this is one of that collection.

ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING? ...I believe so, but the label design throws me (it may be a promo perhaps - light yellow with black print)...I've never actually seen one with the more common red GNP label...anyway, I personally bought this very LP as one of the few (7 or 8) copies they had left over, from Gene Norman's son Neil, in the GNP offices in 1979 (I lived in L.A. that year)...he let me go through his old untouched vinyl archive - quite honestly in a room that looked like it hadn't been entered for a good 10 years or so!! (honest! - it was a buzz...picked up some lovely mint Seeds 7"s in pic sleeves...I have one of each still - I'll list em soon here)...anyway, the Fire Escape LPs were all sealed still and this is one of them (I sold this one to the collector who I just bought all this stuff back from, that same year - he's kept it immaculately - looks like it's never been played) - I don't have anymore...all were sold in my shop here by the end of '79, and I certainly doubt any remain in this condition! You'll love it!

Fortune Teller Internet descriptions/reviews: Here's some odd random reviews of this LP: Because it is totally hardcore, has the word "psychotic" spelled wrong in huge print on the back cover, and is almost impossible to find anywhere, '60s freaks will want this. No members of the so-called Fire Escape are mentioned by name, and there's an arranger's credit, which is not exactly a sign that a regular band is playing. It is a good guess that the group is fabricated and the project is actually performed by the so-called production team of Larry Goldberg and Hank Levine, with help from sessionmen. The liner notes detail how some jokers arrived in San Francisco during the height of the Haight-Ashbury scene and spent more than $50 in cab fare wandering around trying to find where the group the Fire Escape was playing. And guess where that was? A club called the Gutter. If that is not proof enough that this is one of the greatest sets of liner notes in music history, sample the intro: "San Francisco, a far out city! The Fire Escape, a far out band!" Well, it certainly has good taste in covers, that's for sure. Practically all the good parts of the original Nuggets collection are here: the title track, "Talk Talk," "96 Tears." There's not one but two obscure Seeds covers. The producers take credit for writing "Blood Beat" and "Journey's End," both yucky, but no one takes credit for "Love Special Delivery," advertised as just plain "LSD" on the front cover. This is one of three overt references to acid in the song selection -- talk about targeting an audience who are hallucinating too hard to respond. ~ Eugene Chadbourne Classic exploito Garage-Psych album featuring mainly great covers but also a few cool self written numbers. This mind-blowing psychedelic garage collection was put together by the legendary Kim Fowley and Michael Lloyd (October Country, WCPAEB, Smoke) in San Francisco in 1967. Comprising ‘far out’ covers of garage legends including ? & the Mysterians, the Music Machine, the Count Five and the Seeds, the album’s personnel remains a mystery, though it’s rumoured to feature involvement from the Seeds’ Sky Saxon and Steppenwolf’s Mars Bonfire.
CONDITION:
COVER: (M-)...beautiful! - has a crease at bottom left and some very mild scuffing at bottom right (see pix), but cover would be mint otherwise!...
VINYL: (MINT)...yes, really...!
LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT)...
