FIVE DAY WEEK STRAW PEOPLE

"FIVE DAY WEEK STRAW PEOPLE"

IMPOSSIBLY RARE ORIGINAL 1968 UK SAGA LABEL 1st PRESS LP

CAT.NO.STFID 2123

MATRIX.No: STFID 2123 A / STFID 2123 B

VERY RARE UK SAGA LABEL FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP FROM 1968 HOUSED IN FABULOUS FRONT LAMINATED PSYCHEDELIC FLIP BACK SLEEVE

This is the one and only album recorded in 1967 and released in 1968 by Group Members: Guy Mascolo, David Montague, John Du Cann, Jack Collins and Mick Hawksworth

For auction here is a very rare UK original copy of one of the great and legendary 1960's psychedelic LPs, being 'The Five Day Week Straw People' album, actually by Guy and David, although often erroneously believed to be eponymously titled. This is on the Saga label, and numbered STFID 2123, and was issued in 1968.

There simply 'aint anything to say about this psychedelic, garage recorded, guitar led feast of music, anyone who knows collectable 60's LPs will know of this legendary piece of vinyl. All the songs are wonderful original self-composed numbers with plenty of great guitar throughout. What's more this very rare album is in lovely collectable condition.

The laminated front flip-back sleeve has a little minor light creasing near the edges, and a couple of little scuffs on the spine. There is a very small and insignificant 5mm laminate split/tear on the opening edge near the bottom. All text on the spine is clear and fully legible. The mainly white rear has some typical age toning and a few brown spots, otherwise it is very clean and tidy. The vinyl shows a lovely shiny full gloss and is in vg++ near excellent condition, with only a few very light superficial marks and a few wispy hairlines. Both sides play excellently throughout with only a few isolated soft clicks, nothing major. This is a great original 1968 UK first pressing and it sounds sonically brilliant.

So there it is, a legendary album, and a copy in great collectable condition

Plays Superbly And Excellently Throughout With Great Clear Powerful Sound

(A gleaming super thick heavy vinyl with deep shine and full gloss: Graded VG++ near EXCELLENT with just a few faint superficial light wispy hairlines and very light surface marks, nothing major, and nothing to seriously affect the playback of this wonderful 60's psych album. Who says Saga vinyl has to be noisy & bad pressings? Well, sometimes they can be, but not this one. This one sounds excellent and plays extremely well throughout with only some very light audible crackle on the run ins and between some tracks. There are only a very few isolated soft tiny ticks you can hear on playback. There are No skips, No jumps, No sticking at all. This LP has been mine for over 40 years, it has been looked after and cared for extremely well. A fabulous original UK 1st pressing of this impossibly rare and great LP)

Labels: EX

(Both original Black with Silver print labels are very clean with just a very few faint spindle traces.....side one there is a tiny faint scuff near the spindle hole)

Sleeve: EX

(Sleeve is graded at Excellent, has only a few tiny flaws, a few light lamination creases on the front near the edges, one tiny 5mm laminate tear on the open out edge near the bottom and a couple of tiny scuffs on the spine. The predominantly white rear is very clean with just some typical age toning and a few age related brown spots. A superb UK front laminated 60s psychedelic sleeve, and the much, much rarer first flip back version)

FIVE DAY WEEK STRAW PEOPLE: Same, UK Saga STFID 2123, 1968 stereo original 1st pressing LP housed in front laminated flip back sleeve (usually in non-flip back sleeve!). Ultra rare original UK pressing of this legendary British 60's psych rock album. The laminated, flip back style cover is in EX condition. The disc is in VG++ near to EX condition. This is a real nice original copy, plays superbly EXCELLENT all the way - great sound; a handful of isolated soft clicks, nothing serious at all, truly minimal noise between tracks. Great sounding LP! Ultra rare as you know! Good luck!

ORIGINAL SUPER RARE UK very first pressing of this legendary 1968 psych masterpiece by the Five Day Week Straw People on the SAGA label. Yeah, this is CLASSIC UK toytown popsike, recorded in 4 hours and put together by former Attack and future Atomic Rooster and Andromeda frontman and guitarist John Du Cann. This album took a while to get legitimate respect, no doubt due to the fact that it was pressed on the low-budget Saga label. Along with the Magic Mixture, it's definitely one of the best releases on the label, and can hold its own with the Rainbow Ffollys, Koobas, Apple, Tomorrow and Velvet Operas of the time. Put the needle down anywhere and you can see the psychedelic mini's (cars and dresses) outside Granny Takes a Trip circa 1967 - this album has more Carnaby Street flair than Austin Powers' teeth. The title track is classic freakbeat, with echoed-out vocals and murky guitar, which probably has more to do with the low production budget versus sonic preference. Fans of the Smoke, The Creation and Tintern Abbey will find much to love here. "I'm Going Out" is heavier, crunchier psychedelia, while "Gold Digger" rumbles along with a nifty hook and an absolutely KILLER wailing lead guitar solo! It's hampered, or maybe strengthened depending on your opinion, by the same "unfinished" sound that the Rainbow Ffolly album had (which really WAS unfinished). But again, remember, this was all recorded in 4 hours at the Saga studios, and some would say this album has more charm and earthiness than the big-budget boys. When the budget and technology allows, the band does throw in a few wigged out trippy sonic touches - "Postman" starts out backwards, then switches abruptly forward with a rather poor edit. "Does It Rain" starts with a thunderclap followed by, appropriately enough, the sound of rain, then wafts along in a '66 Beatles waltz-time tempo. But the biggest production here is reserved for the biggest mindblower, the amazing "Sunday Morning", whose vocals are drenched in so much echo, they're barely decipherable, if at all. "Sunday Morning" starts out with the sound of children playing, surely found during the same raid on the BBC sound effects library that located the thunder and rain for "Does It Rain". This is followed by a big smashing guitar chord, just like the opening to the Yardbirds "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago". It's an impressive intro for a shoestring budget, the production on the vocals is way over the top echoey, and I can't make out a word of it! The guitarist makes up for it though, with a great freeform echoed-out jangly acid guitar that shimmers like moonlight on water and feeds back on itself. In the end, you're left with a wondrous truly 'lost classic' album whose songs are all top-notch in the grand British 60's popsike tradition, but in the end, much like the Rainbow Ffolly album, you wonder just how incredible this COULD have been if it had gotten equally top-notch big label production. But for something laid down in 4 hours at a low budget studio, it's nothing short of a miracle!! Amazing stuff indeed!!
