Description
MAUREEN ENGLIN was a well-known cabaret artiste and vaudevillian, who trod the boards in the USA and Britain all during the '20s, and also made the occasional record. This record, Pathé 032056, has Miss E. doing an unusual song, "Foolin' Me," a composition of Sidney Bechet and Rousseu Simmons - two Creole composers. What's even more unusual is the audible presence of Sidney Bechet himself on this record, playing his soprano sax softly behind Miss Englin! According to Maureen, she chanced to hear Sidney's saxophone in a publisher's office one day, and intrigued with both the tune and the horn, asked him for a copy of the sheet music, and then asked him to accompany her on the record the next day! The result you can hear for yourself! The flip side has her doing "Hinky Dinky Parley Vous?", unfortunately minus Mr. Bechet. This 1924 record is in glorious E+ condition.
