WITH 2 INSERTS.
The labels are excellent – only very minor spindle marks.
The vinyl is still glossy but has some hairline marks – especially side 2.
The unlaminated gatefold cover is complete (with the Mothers of Invention sticker – although the sticker itself is a bit tatty. No writing, doodles or seam splits. However, there is a lot of rubbing on the front & rear covers – although the inside of the gatefold looks pretty good for its age. The spine is fraying but the wording is still OK. The inner sleeve is yellow & torn.
The inserts look original, I have always assumed that they are original and the research I have been able to do indicates that they are original – however, it is difficult to be absolutely sure because I have never ever seen another set of original inserts in the flesh as it were. There are two inserts: “How to comb & set a Jellyroll” and some “Bop dance steps” diagrammes.
The inserts are the only the reason I purchased this LP – I would not normally buy a copy with such worn front/rear covers. It was purchased second hand in Bleeker Street (New York) in 1973 and cost $25 – way over the top for a copy of this LP at the time. I bought it solely because of the inserts. Both inserts are USA A4 size on fairly thin paper. Insert 1 (Jelly Roll) is not torn at all but does have some stains (moisture?) and Insert 2 (Bop Dance Steps) also has a few stains and the bottom left corner has a slight tear of approx 1”.
I have included full scans of both inserts so that the Zappa experts out there can examine them in detail – I do not want anyone to be disappointed when buying this item because I know how rare they are and how infrequently they come up for auction.
If anyone (reputable in the Zappa world or who also has the original inserts) can confirm the authenticity of these I would be very grateful. Likewise, if somebody reputable is able to demonstrate conclusively if the inserts are not genuine, I will end the auction early and probably destroy them.
You will see from my 100% feedback that I try to be as honest as possible when advertising my items for sale. Bidding will start at a modest price (£49.99) on the assumption that they are genuine originals. So please do not bid on this item unless you are confident that the inserts are indeed genuine.
